Watched some three-part series about BlackBerry. Not very good, but somewhat thought-provoking I found out later. I went out to breakfast with a couple of old friends. It was interesting to discuss how little any of us is connected to mobile phone world, even though we are all well-versed in computers. In the main, we reckoned that being independent is great, but hanging out with co-workers who are good folks is much more fun than cyber office world in some bubble, which is what BlackBerry seems to have been the impetus for. What do I know about all those intellectual stuff, though? I have lived years without any phone so perhaps I am just ignorant about all things mobile phone...

Staring at a couple books earlier. "Violinist's Thumb" and "Darwin's Ghosts" keep catching my eye. I will read them soon enough. In the fiction department, I have this really great book that I can't wait to finish. The title is "Seven Down", which was nominated for some book award. It is good to be able to read a bit. The stress of caregiving full-time for a dying spouse is hard for me to put into words. Grief is forever. And that is fine to work through. Thankfully, grief isn't forbidden to talk about.

I have to laugh. My mom reiterated some story about studying hard to get a dollar from somebody in the administration of her elementary school. She used to use that story to question my lack of study habits. She never did pay attention at the doctor's office when the doctor would tell her that I would be exhausted by the time I got to school due to health problems. My dad was an equally terrible listener. I should be dead.

It seems that I lived long enough to help my wife not die alone. So those books, which she bought for me, will be interesting to read. Kindness may not be part of evolutionary biology, but it is a huge reason why life doesn't suck shit many days.

Found an old home with 175 acres around it in the middle of nowhere. I might move there or somewhere like it. All this being neighbours stuff is exhausting me.

My one neighbor came onto my property and cut down some tall grass (some Japanese variety, actually) that was blowing something his way. Of course, I have a shed load of annoying, wet leaves from his fucking gingko tree all over my property that he does not do fuck all about. My other neighbor lets weeds grow so much that I have given up on grass. I will plant periwinkle on the property line/fence line this year. So, yeah, to continue my bitch session Mr. I Don't Respect Property Boundaries and my other neighbor, who is Mr. I Love When Weeds Grow From My Weed Patch To Your Lawn, without my permission, have broken the law by digging trenches on my property in order to have their excess water drain into my catch basin. The knocked fucking holes into my catch basin without my permission. Absolutely entitled baby boomer shit right there. I will call the town on Monday. Fuck them. Assholes. Tired of their lawless shit and their encroachments. So that is why I am planning to move somewhere else, when I mull it all over. I don't want to spend the next few years having to deal with their entitled shit wondering whether they will die first or I will die first. When my wife was seriously ill and dying, I could forget about their shit for months on end, but my wife was not pleased with what she knew about their bullshit (she was really smart about these types of things, and, yeah, I am not) and I was furious that I didn't have time to think about what to do other than take a baseball bat to them (decided against that as my wife needed my help desperately). They knew that I was overwhelmed by the level of care that I had to provide to somebody who had gone from running marathons to needing a wheelchair and somebody to push her to where she needed help with transfers. The town will order them to dig up what they did illegally. I can't sell this place without rectifying these matters as in getting the process started. Any water problems will be on me if those dickheads claim that I gave them permission. I have a witness who saw them fucking up my catch basin so they are toast. The day and time and so on are all known. People like these neighbors don't mind their own fucking business. And then, when I do something about their bullshit, they whine and cry about the consequences of their actions. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, ragdicks.

That calm after realizing that I have been going about things fairly well, even if I don't feel good at the time I am doing most things.

Ice everywhere. Amazing. Nearly died just taking a step into the morning darkness. I thought of cartoons (Bugs fucken Bunny) as my life nearly slipped away. I have been brainwashed.

I have a loaner car for the weekend. Had a calliper go. Had to laugh about it, as I was in the middle of driving 500 kilometres the day it goes. Metal on metal, such a lovely sound.
