Perhaps nostalgia would elevate this above the merely okay, but I don't have any since it's the first time I've seen it. I enjoyed it. Kilmer had great energy and it was nice seeing the wonderfully odious WIlliam Atherton in a bigger role. I was distracted by how much Michelle Meyrink looked like Melanie Griffith.
For what it's worth, the current mastering on Blu-ray (it's available on 4K too now and probably shares the same master) is really good. Really clean, with decent grain levels and lush colour.

This one definitely hits the 80’s nostalgia sweet-spot for me. Without nostalgia, I can see how this would be forgettable. I love Val Kilmer’s comedic roles. I watch this once a year because of nostalgia, and the soundtrack. William Atherton plays a great jerk in this one.

There was a little moment at the end where a bunch of jersey-wearing kids were diving into a pile of popcorn in slow-motion to Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" that was such a moment of all-American '80s vintage wholesomeness it was almost ecstatically surreal.

Is this movie anything like Weird Science? Cuz I remember enjoying that one a lot despite it's middling tomatometer.

The science is much weirder in weird science, but the tone of both movies is pretty similar
