FFS she's more of a spunk now than she was in the 80's! So plastic surgery can work. Hope her visage persuades more beautifully aging spackers to go that route..... but it all goes horribly wrong for them.
Curious if anyone here is on Spotify and how your “wrap” came out. According to the results my top 5 listened to artists were the doors, suicide, donovan, stooges, dj spooky. Surprised, but not really.
"You are the Great Cat, the avenger of the gods, and the judge of words, and the president of the sovereign chiefs and the governor of the holy Circle; you are indeed the Great Cat."
just...surprised to see them on a list with bands i know like husker du, the clean, fall etc. honestly can't say if i hate them or no, cause i've never heard any of their albums, only the radio hits which were kind of big and ubiquitous here. they certainly weren't on the horizon of my listening / record buying habits or anyone i knew in the day. i probably am biased against them and pretty much all those big iconic oz rock bands from the '80s onwards and can't see that changing now, guess i'll just stay ignorant.

wait WUT. wft The hell u giving me grief for ya boofhead drongo. Go back. Way back

Yeah they were bigger than Santa in Aus, can see how that would grind. TBH I hated their stuff from "Diesel and Dust" on. Seemed like a betrayal. A sellout. All that Blue Sky Mining pop bullshit
So... as an undergrad studying abroad in Mexico City in 1987-88, I ended up at local "discos" - middle-class ones that had all-you-can-drink for like 20~30 usd, meaning slamming as many rum or brandy and cokes, and probably cheap tequila poppers or muppets over two-three hours so it was an ok deal. One place was called Rock City and they would play a fair amount of decent "classic rock" and hey Paradise City was blowing up so...But Beds Are Burning was massive at all places - Would probably trigger the eff out of me if I heard that song today. Never Gonna Let You Down was an equally huge hit....>shrug emoji<
Astley does have a great voice though...
I was already hep to the Saints, Celibate Rifles, Radio Birdman, etc. by that time and probably hated the idea of some political-statement dance-hit, some kinda U2 bs or whatever...
I saw Husker Du in '85 at my uni campus and I was living in the dorms...I guess I was a bit on the fence about Zen Arcade, and then felt they somehow lost "it" after that. Metal Circus being their peak (!) but it is a pretty great record and best Mould guitar sound until Sugar. I appreciate ZA more now even with the "concept" flowing through it...But of course, all the Husker Du stuff could do with remastering and whatnot but then you remember why one million people hate Greg Ginn...

right, before i say anything else i should firstly say that you give good list dawley. not usually a fan of lists at all, but your lists are pretty much always a flummoxing blend of disparate elements to me that make me question my dumb self imposed idea of things that could and should belong together and make me question my biases not just reinforcing them. which is a good thing.
so are you saying that i should be familiar with a bands full discography before saying i 'don't get' a band?
gave the y/tube thing a go...but yeah, nah, didn't do anything for me. i mean i get their energy and shit. and they certainly don't suck anywhere near as much as say for instance inxs (pronounced: inks). but to me they still come across like a bunch of prog loving surfy guys playing 'new wave'. sorry, i just don't get their appeal. my loss, right?
oh man, that clip made me glad that i have never been to an outdoor music festival. cause honestly, would rather be tarred and feathered and thrown head first from the sydney harbour bridge than be stuck in a paddock with a few thousand good time loving drunk dancing yobbo cunts.
....gonna miss social distancing and lockdowns. thats my idea of freedom. freedom from cunts.

...and yet for a number of them it might well be one of the happiest memories of their entire lives. They might be still yammering on about it to this very day.
My reckoning is that for every single piece of music ever made there is someone on the planet who is thrilled to pieces by it.
look seriously, i’m in my late 50’s, i know what i like. i don’t ever wanna be a killjoy or rain on anyone’s parade. while a lot of people obviously enjoy outdoor music festivals and other large social gatherings (and more power to them!) i just know its not my scene. call me crazy but i really don’t enjoy being shoulder to shoulder, cheek to jowl, groin to buttock amongst hordes of happy go lucky fellow countrymen. in fact, it only drives towards being a truly miserable killjoy fuck.
call me an elitist or whatever, but the majority of my favourite shows have been by bands that only a handful of people know or care about in tiny shit hole venues. some of the bands never released anything. some of those venues didn’t have stages. just setup on the floor eye to eye with the punters. no bullshit. thats the shit i really enjoy.
no fomo. not worried about missing out on some band thats only playing a some big festival or limited ticket / sold-out shows. i don’t think i’m too cool for school, i’m not concerned with the concept of cool or not. i don’t give a fuck. i like what i like and everyone else is free to like what they like. its not a competition. like you said dawley, no matter what it is, theres gonna be people out there that think its either the best or worst thing ever…and it really doesn’t matter which side of the fence you’re on, just as long as you can find something you do love.
Not trying to shut you down, but please never write this again:
you give good list
I hate rankings, that shits for the military bappi! Big concerts outdoors or in, I have been to a few but I was ruined by small clubs early on, seeing bands you adore right in front of your face, just can't be beat...My first arena concert was at the infamous Long Beach Arena to see Aerosmith in '87 or so-- I was in a very rawk phase and lovin early Aerosmith. Going with a pack of young ladies, drinking Brass Monkey and jug wine in the RnR parking lot was of course awesome. I probably walked around during Dokken or whoever opened and then bailed on my friends to sneak up to like the 6th row. Managed to stay for the whole set and quite enjoyed it. Went to a few more there, AC/DC, and Alice Cooper because Motorhead opened but it felt ridiculous watching a band from more than 20 feet back...
just as long as you can find something you do love.
I remember listening to a jazz show on KPFK in the mid-90s hosted by Michelle Coltrane...I also remember listening to her sadly announcing the passing of the great Tony Williams. A truly muscular drummer...
These docs look cool. I listen to a lot of jazz but can’t say I know too much about the lives and careers of too many jazz musicians. But Miles’ autobiography is a very important book to me.
The one Tony Williams record I listen to the most is Emergency! Really simple organ, guitar and drums, for some really abstract funk madness. youtu.be/Lb6sEqseWkM

Blind Shake へええ~ Have you heard their stuff with Michael Yonkers? I imagine the vocals might annoy you...wild how they swing from that to more surfy stuff with John Reis. Not that I mind either end, but some folk hate on RFTC et al
I never met him but Reis grew up in the same beach community in San Diego as I did
I was lucky enough to see MoR with Baker! Great foggin album and I always post this song as some witty soshal mediums repartee...
