I guess I like old school stoner rock as ridiculous as that sounds...Hard to believe that genre blew up...wait, I'm very stoned and very wrong...The US will probably have weed legal at the federal level under Biden.
I was happily surprised that the great Bongzilla put out a new album ~ one of the few exceptions I make for gruff vocals like this because it really works. Swear the music has a lot more soft even proggy moves...
And Sleep released a new EP ~ not essential, but nice to know they are thinking about us...
Warning for 日本! Staring at these album covers may get you high enough for the local constabulary to be called by a concerned neighbor to "talk you down". Drink a beer and don't go outside instead.
St. Vitus were already grandaddies of the doom/stoner rebirth or whatever but I saw them with Blast, probably 1986 or 87 and I know for certain future members of Fu Manchu were in the audience. I will post photos later...

Sorry, had to make a dedicated thread for this. I love this shit, these days wayy more than the garage turkey stuff. Maybe not so much the mid-paced stoner rock, more the sloow and low doom/sludge shit.
Always meant to get some BONGZILLA but somehow never did.
Recently been rooting the boring and monotonous and awesome DISROTTED

Bugs me that I cannot get into SLEEP like I should. Rooting the Electric Wizard way more.
Have bought Dopesmoker 2xLP twice and sold it both times. Just that sort of "rolling" back and forth feel to the music somehow backs me out of it

yah, I swing way more on the groove/space-rock side of le genre ~ Monster Mag more than Fu Manchu tho...Not sure the divide between EW and Sleep ~ the weed stuff? It is no less silly than watever all those harsh mysterious blackened beyond black thrash bands whinge on about...I will throw on the occasional Corrupted, ya know, to keep my street cred but mostly pass on SUNN type stuff ~ I go for Rusted Shut or the Unholy Two for the slow harsh buzzzzz...
Way more politically correct woke

Damn the youtube sound is shit, reduces everything to a tinny squall went berko hunting down their lp's and 7"s back in the day then one day it dawned on me that the cookie monster vocals are completely wrecking my enjoyment of the music. Sold the lot. All except this awesome 7" whcih I think of as their peak. Or, maybe, nadir, in the doomy parlance. If they released intrumental versions of all their stuff i would definitely start the hunt again. THANKS.

I guess the real stoner rock explosion starts with the new millenium ~ due to the growing legality of le cannabisse I suppose...This song was on an excellent comp. on Rise Above Records that helped kick it off I suppose... www.discogs.com/Various-Rise-13-Magick-Rock-Vol1/master/298069This was my intro to EW and I really thought it was a reissue or excavation from 1974... The Spirit Caravan track on that comp kills also but no YT so you have go to the end of this thing or just listen to the whole thing because Wino really is GOD!

Unida, rememebr the name from the old Man's Ruin label. They sound a bit hectic for my sludge brain.
Man's Ruin were carried by the Mordam one-stop and thus were easy and cheap to get.... yet musically so much of it failed to deliver after you got excited by the alluring artwork.
Real gutpunch in my store days when they suddenly went bust overnight ffs

That Ronnie James Dio tremolo-thing vocal styling does tend to drive me round the bend.
Same dealbreaker I have with Iron Maiden.

National Emergency.
My copy of "Come My Fanatics" 2xLP has developed a fuckign SKIP right at the start on the awesome opening sample.
My world is now in tatters.
I am distraught.
The sample is ruined.
Really don't see how I can go on.

was way into the first unsane lp when it came out, played it to death. was living above a t.v repair shop on a busy road in inner city sydney. after the shops all closed we could play shit at window rattling volume all night. happy daze. had a drum kit and amps set up permanently and a good powerful stereo with waist high speakers. you couldn't get away with that shit these days.

UFOMAMMUT.
Had always though of these Italian chappies as too prog/psych for my monobrained doom sludge tastes.
Think I may have been wrong.
Again.

Kill All Redneck Pricks. LOLL in the wake of the latest school shooting (holy shit and the kid looks just like the KARP drummer at that age) these 3 kids would all get fuckign sectioned as school shooter risks.
Been mental about Karp since I first heard them in the 90's via this 7":
It was probably my most played 7" of the 1990's.
Shit, i reckon ANYONE who heard that instantly thought "ok this band have taken the Melvins sound but made it infinitely better and pretty much rendered the Melvins themselves redundant".
Still kicking myself for sellign all 3 of their LP's when the prices went astronomical. Probably the premier albums desprately in need of repressing in all of doom/sludge music iHomo

Sleep’s Jeruselum or Dopesmoker or whatever it’s called feels like some sort of peak for the genre. Saw High on fire live and they were loud as hell, though i never listened to them much.
Cavity is one of my favorites. Probably the group that really introduced me to the slow and heavy.

Sleep’s Jeruselum or Dopesmoker or whatever it’s called feels like some sort of peak for the genre. Dopesmoker ihomo, which after 30 mins has me confused and discombobulated for some reason On the strength of this 2xLP I bought 3 of their newer cd's on the cheap.... but they played wayy too fast for old man me these days I have On The Lam (which was too fast for me) and Supercollider, which is some teeth-rattling stuff

I saw High on Fire right after that first LP came out and they were so good but never really got much into the other ones. The Heads opened and were not just insanely loud but I could feel the bass pulsing my rib cage. Insanely great band that is sometime lumped into Stoner Rock but they are really much much more than that...
It was at the famous Troubadour and Nebula headlined but they were pretty snoozy after the first two bands...
This was around the same time I saw them:
KARP...must be the name. Sure I had them on a tape from a friend many moons ago but hadn't thought about them in years until a friend recently posted this concert...

I haven’t listened to it in forever but i used to really love Earth 2. had the cd for ages. Dubbed to cassette and away it goes. I think of it as a doom metal staple. It plods along, going nowhere, menial and monotonous but somehow never boring. No surprises with fast bits chucked in either ffs

Discovered this around the same time as Jeruselum and I feel like they paired very nicely together.

I think I only recognized like two band names in there. Some very nice looking album covers, and some promising descriptions. So stoner rock is back, who woulda thought.

I think I only recognized like two band names in there. Some very nice looking album covers, and some promising descriptions. So stoner rock is back, who woulda thought. The #1 and #4 "King Buffalo" not my thing at all. Wouldnt mind the #2 Monolord, bit more grunty and monotonous. #3 "Green Lung" again not my thing, too "fast" and not boring enough. Sorry, Stoner Rock.

Well this is odd. Was googling around for any records shops in town I didnt know about and stumbled across this a few hours from here: faerie.web.fc2.com/aboutus.htmlA doom store? More googling and it looks like a room in the dudes HOUSE. Plus all the stuff is exorbitantly expensive. Understandable given doom labels have gone all idiotic boutique lately.
