I may be oversimplifying or using language wrong but I thought "receiver" was like the thing where you choose what input is being sent to the speakers. One option on anything of that age will be radio but that's also tape, aux, phono, etc. I mean you can't go turntable --> speakers, you need turntable --> receiver --> speakers. Oh wow, i thought that was what amps did? Always thought receiver was just for radio so never bothered with them. So it boosts the power to the turntable too?

What do your red and white turntable outputs go into?

What do your red and white turntable outputs go into? Straight to the amp, baby. Rock and roll aint no riddle mang. Although my amp is kind of a feeble 90's piece of shit. I'd rather have one of those 70's/80's munters.

I see. As previously disclosed, I don't know what I'm talking about. Perhaps amp/receiver are interchangeable in my mind and possibly in real life.

Current project is building a new set of shelves to eventually upggrade my screen to an 85", which is far too large for my current unit.
There's nothing on the market that is durable, modular and expandable the way I want except for professional solutions that cost more than a new car. I wanted units with wheels and an open back so it would be easy to connect wires and so forth - I also wanted better ventilation for fan-cooled devices. Top surface of the unit housing the receiver will be fully ventilated too using flat metal grille plates.
Basic design is solid wood on nylon wheels, precisely 19" rack width and the top (fixed) shelf is 4U high, so adding rails for rackmount equipment (I have some) is a formality. Shelves underneath are floating with removeable pins, and spacing allows an additional precise 4U above and below the centre position should I need more rack space.
First prototype was completed last weekend. I was going to do it with dowels to hide the connectors but without sufficient clamps (that cost vastly more than the materials) it just didn't take - and it was a huge amount of effort. 50mm screws took minutes, are rock solid, and so I'll just cover them with filler instead. I made the first one a bit too tall, so I'll find another use for it.

Current project is building a new set of shelves to eventually upggrade my screen to an 85" You deserve it! Camp Leader brought this 60" munter home a few years ago. The goddamn base alone cost 150,000 yen! We never even watch the cunt any more cos Sky TV is straight up regurgitated garbage and obviously not going to watch Japanese TV as I don't want to be sent spiralling into a frenetic suicidal tantrum by that nonstop parade of hi-tension shrieking fake-happy cunts.

Nice monoblocks! What's the wattage? Are those JBLs?
I never use my TV for TV unless it's series streamed or on Blu-ray.

Nice monoblocks! What's the wattage? Are those JBLs? Brown ones are Technics, white ones are Sonabs. No idea of wattage or what "monoblocks" are. The speakers look a bit daft but I have no idea about "placement" and just hooked all 4 up. The Sonab's have a delicate "tapered" bass which is a bit feeble so the Technics take up the slack there. The Sonabs have about 4 Peerless tweeters each so that takes care of all the hi end with some accompaniment from the technics horns confession time I have no idea WFT I am doing

Ah, I thought the white ones were amps, with heat sinks sticking out the tops. "Monoblocks" are single channel amps favoured because they have total stereo separation thanks to being isolated from the other channel.
Those Sonabs look a bit like those old Bose 501 multi-tweeter boxes.

Does the tv have an HDMI jack? Connect yours laptop etc. to stream in the modern world... The fucking thing is busted. Probably just as well or else Camp Leader and I would be inextricably hurled into a daily Battle Of The Planets to see who gets to watch their shit on the big screen while the other poor cunt has to suffer though it. 6 hours of mahjong matches ain't no motherfucking rock and roll fun.

Dragged the fat black cunt back to my lair.
Sheeeet check out that dial bottom right corner, a setting for whether you have a moving coil versus a moving magnet turntable cartridge. WFT. I didnt even know such an amp setting existed. How can it tell? Magnets, how do they work?

Nice score! I think Moving coil cartridges just produce a bit less power so they need more preamplification.

There's a trend in some high end speakers to point two drivers at each other and create a waveguide/horn that directs sound 360° around the speaker. Avoids all sorts of box colouration but I can't help thinking you'll need an insanely damped room to stop echoes from every surface arriving at your ears at different times. Directional speakers are more efficient and cut some of the need for acoustic treatment.

Nice score! I think Moving coil cartridges just produce a bit less power so they need more preamplification. My MC is INSANELY loud on this thing. As in, the amp is barely on Volume 1 and its already public nuisaaaaaaaance territory. Wayyyy louder than the cd player which aint how its supposed to be. Makes me think I've hooked the cunt up wrong? Although after having a bit of a read around, Denon DL 110 MC carts have a very high output and my phono stage might be low output? turns out a lot of Japanese amps have a huge difference between db output for MC vs MM carts. Whatevs, as long as I'm not going to burn anything out. This amp is a massive upgrade in sound. Just a different plateau. I REALLY dont want to go to work anymore. Fuck those clowns. My rug is where its at.

my Sonabs are omni-directional and weird. I'll put my ear right by them and it'll sound terrible and tinny (are these things broken?) then if I lie on the floor sometimes I could SWEAR the right channel was coming from about 15 feet beyond the top right corner of the room

Is it possible your turntable has its own pre-amp?

I work from home but funnily enough I listen to podcasts all day rather than music. I actually think there's something to the idea that being forced to go to the office makes you appreciate being home more.

I actually think there's something to the idea that being forced to go to the office makes you appreciate being home more. The best thing about going to work is that you get to come home again. Ahh, that a feeling. What a moment! Shoes off, fuck you all, my time now. Then if you actually do work from home.......... after a while you go a bit potty and just want to get out of the bloody place.

Oh yeah, this is nice.
I was worried that having the speakers so far apart would result in less solid stereo imaging, but nope, it's still rock solid and much broader. Plus the lower speakers means the tweeters are closer to ear level and so I'm getting more detail. I only use the L/R speakers for music but I could swear the centre is on.
I am suddenly very into those little recordings of environments at the beginnings of some songs: footsteps in a room, rain, cars driving around and so on. My old placement sounded very impressive but this is just incredible.

Looking good. All you need now are a couple of LP frames for that huge wallspace and to TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF. www.amazon.com/album-frames/s?k=album+framesps how would it sound with the speakers lying down on their sides? Might look epic. Like a low and mean layer of sound. pss the car balanced on the speaker, you clearly dont live in eaaaaarrthhhquaaaaaaake country
