Soft Cell - 1981 - Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret - Dunno how I didn't pick this up years ago, but holy shit, what a record.
The Klezmonauts - 1998 - Oy to the World! - I've got a soft spot for proper Christmas carols but most recordings are fucking over-sentimental dreck, over elaborate, child choirs and the like. This is a klezmer version that is simultaneously very funny because of how Jewish it sounds and through minor-key interpretations of the tunes it sort of captures that slightly melancholy feeling of a Salvation Army brass quintet on a street corner, which is something else I'd like to find a decent recording of. Morrissey - 2009 - Swords - Just a B-sides compilation for the sake of general completion. Some funnier tracks on here. Steven Wilson - 2014 - Hand. Cannot. Erase. - A present from the ladyfriend after I mentioned it existed and gave a rundown of its background concept. It's a little too proggy for me but some very good tracks.
Porcupine Tree - 1996 - Signify - Part of the same present from the girlfriend. I like it a little more than Wilson's solo album and some of it rocks decently. Very proggy.

My Discogs wantlist is at about 900-odd entries for about 500 albums, but the prices are so berserk lately I haven't bought much.
Woah. Thats a lot I used to have a list of 100 or so but goddamnit the thing took up weighted residence in my head like I was a drug addict looking for fixes of unobtainium. Ended up torturing myself over it My poxy wee current list is much more realistically manageable: Barkmarket - Gimmick Barkmarket - L. Ron Barkmarket - Lardroom Deadsmoke - Deadsmoke Deadsmoke - Mountain Legacy Electric Wizard - Black Masses Electric Wizard - Wizard Bloody Wizard Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express Ufomammut - 8 Ufomammut - Snailking Im curious if www.ccmusic.com/ have the same bonkers cheap postage to Aus that they do to Japan. Their stuff is not particularly cheap but factor in the postage and its the same total as wholesalers ffs Just had a dick around with the CCmusic cart and they charge the same postage for lp's as cd's. WFT. 5 items to Japan: US$23.9910 items: $33.99and if you really go berko, 20 items for $53.99

Been a while since I updated, not a huge number of records bought this year.
Bruce Springsteen - 1973 - Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J - Record fair bargain bin pickup. I only recently decided to give Springsteen a go and he is wildly overrated but still good. $2 or so a disc is fine by me. Bruce Springsteen - 1980 - The River - Same record fair. Catherine Wheel - 1992 - Ferment - Making an effort to pick up some classic shoegaze albums lately. This is great. Chapterhouse - 1991 - Whirlpool - Also great. Chris Rea - 1993 - Espresso Logic - Not his best stuff but I always enjoy his particular combo of vocal rasp and virtuoso slide guitar. Colourbox - 2012 - Colourbox - This has been hovering around AUD200 for years now and I got a good deal. Beautifully remastered, zero brickwalling. -
Electric Youth - 2014 - Innerworld - Got the un-identifiable deluxe version with the bonus tracks I wanted on eBay for a fraction of the price it was hovering around on Discogs. A nice album.
Eureka Brass Band - 1951 - New Orleans Funeral & Parade - A bit no-noised, sadly, but has that loose, primitive feel I like in old-timey jazz, which is (generally) the only jazz I like. Final - 2022 - I Am the Dirt Under Your Fingernails - Just some drones from Broadrick, very tasteful. Hatchie - 2022 - Giving the World Away - Brisbane girl who makes pop songs that seem to have been secretly backed by Lush and Slowdive. Nothing brilliant, but the guitar sounds are utterly huge and so I reward her with my dollars. Leonard Cohen - 1984 - Various Positions - Filling out the Cohen collection. Ludwig van Beethoven - 1963 - 9 Symphonien (Herbert von Karajan,Berliner Philharmoniker) - Extremely lush recordings, although could be a little snappier here and there. Makthaverskan - 2017 - Ill - This was really hard to find and then popped up for cheap at a generic eBay seller. Score! Mogwai - 2008 - The Hawk Is Howling - Part of a big Discogs haul Mogwai - 2017 - Every Country's Sun - Same Discogs haul New Model Army - 1989 - Thunder and Consolation - Bought for "Vagabonds", but whole album is great. Pale Sketcher - 2022 - Golden Skin - Really nice little collection of surprisingly upbeat drum'n'bass type stuff by Broadrick Robert Johnson - 1937 - The Complete Recordings - Owned a prior version of this but this was re-recorded from recently unearthed sources in far better nick than before, and better ordered too. Absolutely huge improvement. Roger Waters - 1992 - Amused to Death - It's not Floyd but it's okay. Swirlies - 1993 - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton - This one was really, really expensive but I got a deal on it. Still expensive. Good album. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - 2009 - The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Noisy sort of pop/indie stuff that works. The Waterboys - 1985 - This Is the Sea - Not entirely sold on this band despite all the praise, but it's a good listen. Weyes Blood - 2022 - And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow - A good album by any standards but lacks the immediate standouts of her earlier stuff.

Bah, it's all in chicken scratches.
Google Chrome browser with its auto translate is my lifesaver. Wouldnt even bother otherwise. Sounds like International Shipping would be a pain in the arse though Feel free to send a list of links of stuff u want from their store and I can add em to my next order and forward them on to Aus. Regular Japan PO shipping would surely be cheaper than whatever emanates from that "World Shopping Cart" bullshit. No idea whats in it for me LOL. Maybe dubbing the odd cd to tape if it takes my fancy fukk knows. 1,000 yen looks to be about AU$11 these days

Bruce Springsteen - 1980 - The River - Same record fair.

totally agree on the wildly overrated. Born In The USA and its Guitar Rock Man iconography ffs all the riffs are plinkly little keyboards, tuff guy. Darkness and Nebraska are the only 2 lp's I kept (and I think of them as perfect 10's.)

Turns out I got a problem with "remixes". I know NOTHING about t eh dance scene but that Andrew Weatherall "remix" sounds to me like some egotistical fashun d'jay has just lazily slapped his artless oonst oonst numbskull bass drumbeat on the track and in doing so robbed it of the dreamy falling skree quality which made it legandary in the first place. Thank you for nothing, Mr Big Name Remixing" D'Jay. Hack.

Bought some computer books, but also one CD. Some Greek musician's CD. You'd all probably never listen to it or even look at it. I am quite excited to hear it. I even wrote her and told her. Total fucking music nerd to the death. She replied that she looks forward to hearing about my response to the CD seeing as how I own every other CD she has ever made. It was put out by BIS, which I mentioned to her has, to my mind, the best sound engineers of classical CDs going today. She agreed privately. Sher certainly can't afford to alienate other labels. BIS really is night and day compared to NAXOS, for example. More nerd talk.

Got the new Laibach album, Sketches of the Red Districts. Laibach are an interesting mix of hilariously silly and genuine menace This is squarely in the latter camp, and actually pretty great. Pretty spare, soundtrack-y sort of thing. Sounds very, very nice.

My favorite conspiracy theory (which may be true) is that Stevie Wonder has been faking blindness since the beginning. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Yeah have read a few things, supposedly can make out shape outlines etc. I reckon he scopes out where the drums are positioned prior to playing then away he goes. Nice try "Stevie Wonder", if in fact that is even your real name.

Bad Manners... I hung on to 1 album, "klass." If I was REAL drunk and someone put on Lip Up Fatty or Lorraine, I'd probably be pretty happy, but I can't really imagine playing this or any other BM any time soon. Although I guess for reasons I can't explain I hung onto a 12" cover of "Bang on the Drum." I'd be more apt to play the Selecter... The Specials, I love and respect, but I mean, I have probably played those records all I need to play them. I did buy my friends' weird ones like No Sports, Maroon Town, etc, always did have a sweet spot in my heart for that awful stuff but I don't actually play them often.
These days it's dub, dub, and the occasional punky 7". After passing on King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown 100 times in the 90s I paid $20 of whatever for it. And I think I got an RSD pressing of Revolutionaries "Sounds vol 2." which I'm really looking forward to, should arrive any minute now. I saw a copy that was probably not RSD for $40 but... who cares? I guess I do but not $40 worth.
I got NCM Ultimate Orgasm for $100 and this guy is NOT NM-. The cover managed to get a little divot in the top somehow during shipping and it plays pretty noisy, A side looks like it has jizz streaks on it or something. Not sure what to do. What is my plan here. Bitch and moan and ship it back and buy a different copy for a similar price that's a little better? Demand $20? Look I'm probably going to suck it up and leave positive feedback.
You win some and you lose some in this wild game we play.
