I would get pilloried on termbo if I dared to unironically claim to love the Dragons or the Black Halos but I am not going to mount some court case in front of faceless jerks It was the worst thing about Termbo, the snobbery just dripping from the panels, "I'm not an elitist hipster but everything I like is better and cooler than everything you like." There was a reason I never posted in the music threads. Think I read that Angry Samoans Mike these days exclusively likes bubble gum pop like Britney Spears. Where does that fit in your pin-pricked drawer of rolodexed cuntlery? Not quite sure what THAT is but...I think Metal Mike has been crazy for Spears since like the early naughts...uh no, make that 1998. WFT is this? Dear Diary – Britney Spears: a classic from the vaults www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/02/britney-spears-diary-rocks-backpagesNope, uh uhn, not gonna read that, so my take is I dinnae ken mate...Angry Samoans "Back from Samoa" is a classic top ten of whatever it is, and I even dig their later more straight-ahead garage rock releases. I guess MM survives on touring with an Angry Samoans cover band. I got an autobio by Gregg Turner, another Angry Samoan and also in Vom, so really need to read that...uhmmm..what's the question again? Oh, I actually got to see the three guitar lineup of the Samoans in like '84. Big punker show at a skate rink in North Hollywood. I actually drove up with some friends from San Diego who were doing a HC SE zine called "The Leading Edge", one of whom was Martin Sprouse who would go on to become basically the No. 2 dude at MRR...Anyhow, the lineup order was determined randomly, so let me try to remember all the bands... Ill Repute Aggression Circle One Code of Honor oh wait I found the flier! Ugly huh? Maybe the Samoans were a late addition...they did play last or nearly last and totally destroyed in between some amp problems or something. oh well. I do remember the creeper shoe of a stage diver racking me in the side of my head somehow during the Samoans set. Dazed but unconfused...

That Angry Samoans show would be an ace memory. You should have stayed in America forever and been a Cool Young American Man going to shows there forever. You BLEW IT by turning your back on the Angry Samoans and relocating to stupid placid uptight Asia. B-L-E-W I-T. LOL I remember these things from before the Computer. Maniacs would pour their hearts and tears and passions into them, painstakingly cutting and pasting by hand, hours and hours spent writing out "Record Reviews" etc then, stapling, photocopying, then, their hearts full of hope, they'd mail a "review copy" off to the holy god of MRR whereupon some Tim sycophant would tear their labour of love to shreds in 2 sentences and that would be the end of that.

"Cool Young American Man" yoooo the problem is I got old and look at the dork in the Misfits shirt. Did I correspond with Pushead and got that shirt straight him yes cool or confused, or just existing in that moment with no reason not to do it. They also told me to love or leave it and so I said ok yeah sure thanks for all the bombs and guns. Second best band of the night - already more into their Beware the Savage Jaw "mature phase" but still cranked out their Cali Independence hits! Also speaking of fanzines and correspondence, we went to the Simi Valley, about a half-hour north of the Valley, to pick up a young budding punk cartoonist named Brian Walsby who would rise to some prominence, but back then he was asking pen pals from San Diego to take him to a show 45 minutes from his house. He also played music from Scared Straight to Double Negative to this and other weirdness I do not know... (This is just a demo with the two main COC dudes and Walsby on drums, Blast meets Wurm ha ha) Those days were those days, tomorrow, she another day, and then where are you now senor? tbh, my aforementioned old friend who ended up as numero dos at MRR was mostly involved in design and organizing - almost no record reviews, but still devoted to the party line. There's some doc., funded by Green Day I think, about the East Bay scene that birthed them and it goes through all the stories about MRR and Gilman, where my friend is really highlighted as swaying Tim Yo to close it the first time. It was all about the no advertising, it's a club house and you just show up and whoever is playing is playing. (Damn, granpa is getting long winded...) Anyhow, I hate to sound like a blowhard but I was a little ahead of him politically and while I swung fairly progressive, I could see the dead end of trying to chain politics to music, so we could still talk Chomsky but I zoned out when he started going on about the book Tim had him reading: Rules for Radicals...(insider baseball so be cool bros). to keep us focused. Walsby developed a lot as an artist but if you look up stuff that actually made it on actual album covers in 1986 or so. no bueno

Also - Didn't the mighty Shane White join MRR in the late 90s or something and brought some filthy degenerate garage rock back into the zine? Prolly my fave Rip Off band - with the Registrators

aint gonna be cheap but i can get you a price for the shipping from australia if you want? Yeah let’s see, could possibly still be worth it. 19104 is the zip ok. estimator on the austraila post website below should be pretty acurate. let me know if you wanna proceed and if you do whether you wanna get insurance etc... ...also, within the next six weeks or so i'm going to get a list together of stuff i want to sell and will put together a small set sale list and post here if there anyone interested(?) cause i can't be arsed with discogs, ebay etc. not planning on selling a lot of stuff at this stage (depends on how the sag-aftra strike plays out). i've been buying records since the late '70s and most are original pressings bought when they came out, but i'm only seeking fair prices as none of the covers are 100% mint cause i have never used plastic outer sleeves cause they fucking shit me...however the actual vinyl has always been looked after. i've never counted them cause i'm a lazy sod, but i have around two thousand lps and a few hundred 7"s. looking at listing 100 or so lp's first up. anyway back to the task at hand... Completely bizarre. Just ran 2kg thru Aus post (maybe 5 lp's) and its $58. GTFO. You rich cunts and your bubbleless Disneyland economy! Would gladly buy yer unwanteds but ffs not at 1200 yen postage per record. There must be cheaper options. That aint right. ps dont list any records you have any hankering to rehear down the road. Nothing worse than 3 years later reachign for that Lp and oh FUCK ME I SOLD THE CUNT WFT WAS I THINKINGGGG. Cue hello yer back on the internet scouring for a cheap copy to rebuy the cunt

Nothing worse than 3 years later reachign for that Lp and oh FUCK ME I SOLD THE CUNT WFT WAS I THINKINGGGG. Cue hello yer back on the internet scouring for a cheap copy to rebuy the cunt ok, i'll have a look to see if theres any cheaper options and get back to yer. yeah i've been down the reductive rabbit hole of ever diminishing returns of selling and re-buying before, so i won't be selling off anything except stuff i have been think about culling for years. its not like when i was on the dole in my twenties selling stuff to pay the rent. at this stage of my life i have enuf records to play a few a week and never have to play the same thing twice if i don't want to. then theres the singles and four or five hundred cds to get thru as well... i did make a shocking rookie mistake about six years ago, of posting some records i wanted to sell along with some other family household stuff we didn't want anymore on a local community yard sale site on a friday night. fucking 6am saturday morning we had record collector scum pounding on the door and ringing the phone. once i let then in the yard and they saw the type of records i was selling in the yard a few started haranguing me to let them inside the house to look at what else i had. no fucking way was i letting those freaks inside the door. so, i went inside and bought out a box of about eighty 45's i that i had previously started to go thru to see what i might think about selling. intending to offer them maybe the ten or fifteen of the most obvious ones i in there to sell. this had about the same effect on them as offering up my seven yr old kid up to a bunch of zombies...they rushed at me shouting and waving wads of cash in my face. one of them stuffed $600 in my top pocket, grabbed the box out of my arms and headed out the gate towards his car before i had the chance to say no. so i started following him, but i had my kid pulling at my sleeve asking me to put the money in the cash box we had put him in charge of and the missus telling me how we could do with the cash...so i backed off and let him drive away with the whole fucking box. later, when i thought about exactly what was in that box. which included amongst other quite good shit this, this and this. i almost slit my wrists...ok well, i did nearly cry! it still hurtz when i think about it. fuck, what a nightmare. oh well, wtf, its only stuff.

Fuckit, you got out while the getting out was good. I see one of them you quoted has been repressed and is now an $8 record. Suck on that one collector scumz. My version of the X song is on the amrep cd sampler ffs. Fine by me. Still sounds ace and saved me $400. I see the Aspirations LP is now a $30 record. LOL@ the stamp collector dweebs that shelled out $300 for the 1st pressing.

yah that Yonkers collab is dope. I think BS got into surf music or something
Maybe I've mentioned this before but Reis grew up in my same neighborhood but one year younger I think. I moved to a different area mid-ninth grade but still went to school and hung out a lot in the old one. Never met him unless we crossed paths on a skateboard or something. The area is called Pacific Beach, quintessential sleepy socal beachside community in the '70s. But there was also Mission Beach, and Bay, Ocean Beach, Imperial Beach and then the Mexican border. Other hoods included Bird Rock, Point Loma, Del Mar and of course La Jolla, the jewel, where all the richies live.
Is post-pre-proto-punk garage punk? I think so.

It’s a genre with a pretty short shelf life. I still like the cramps as they’ve always been one of my favorite bands. Still listen every now and then. The gories also hold up for me, even though i won’t listen to them as much. I used to like bands like the oblivians but i got sick of that style pretty quickly. Same with the budget rock stuff from the 90’s. I still like the peechees, if that qualifies, and le shok.
I will listen to old garage comps from the 80’s and bands like the shadows of knight, but these days i’m more likely to listen to old surf than old garage. And the throwback era i seem to be most interested in lately is late 90’s and early 00’s, though not so much the rock music from that time.

I spend most of my time trawling around wholesale outlets so havent really delved into "bandcamp" yet. It looks like a brilliant way to take the power back from The Man. Do most labels have those cheapo bundles? I see so many comments on Discogs releases saying " dont pay scalpers prices for this. you can still get it directly from their bandcamp for $5 ffs" It was heavily mocked on Termbore when it first started for the name, which is redonklous, but it's surprising the amount of musicians that are showing up onit. There's a Bandcamp Friday every so often when the artists/labels get 100%. Records and the dreaded postage I know nothing about! modernenglish.bandcamp.com/album/mesh-laceharrypussy.bandcamp.com/sunramusic.bandcamp.com/crass.bandcamp.com/lydialunch.bandcamp.com/Hey this Mesh & Lace album is pretty groovy. Not sure who gets the cash for Lydia now but stream away and spread the virus. Huge fan of Honeymoon in Red and Shotgun Wedding! 13.13 is a great early one that was a highly prized vinilz of mine (another great front of stacker cover), scored used even. No news who bought it!
