Sort of a shaggy-dog caper on an epic scale. The politics are a bit dishonest, but fucking Hell, this film looks amazing. Most of Hollywood seems to be in it, and the performances are all good. Think Coen brothers crossed with Wes Anderson crossed with Hal Ashby crossed with Howard Hawks. It's not perfect but I can't imagine anyone with a cinephile streak not getting something out of it.

To describe Amsterdam as an unfunny comedy would be unfair, because it’s so much more than that. It’s also a non-thrilling thriller and a not particularly mysterious mystery.
