I got this on eBay because it had Mads Mikkelsen on the cover and the reviews were good. It's a Danish dark comedy sort of in the mould of The League of Gentlemen, but it has a surprising amount of heart in between the constant blunt-force traumatising.
A pair of brothers go to a small island to meet their long lost family and discover something I don't want to spoil, even though it rapidly becomes pretty obvious when things are heading. It borders on horror, but there are so many good laughs Everyone throws their back into the performances and I was guffawing fairly frequently. It feels a bit like someone with perfect delivery telling you a really long dirty joke where there are loads of potential gross punchlines. It also sets things up so that you're thinking "ugh, I hope they don't go there" and then completely surprises you in funny ways.
Not for everyone, but if you have a taste for utterly depraved grotesquerie combined with daffy slapstick and stupid-discussion comedy, then this is the film for you.
