I hate Aronofsky, and this is an adaptation of a play that ticks every fucking theeatah box for themes, overacting and on-the-nose symbolism possible. The usual Aranofskyisms creep in when depicting the protagonist's weight-related challenges, with a horror score and hand-in-the-jelly-tub sound effects as he pushes food into his face, presumably done to impress upon you the seriousness of his condition, but only makes him seem more like a sideshow monster. The whole thing seems like a cynical enterprise cashing in on public sympathy for Fraser, who is a shoo-in for an Oscar here.
