This is, and absolutely feels like, a corny, watered-down remake of a superior, darker Swedish film. Hanks was a poor choice as he simply doesn't read credibly as a miserable old bastard with a heart of ice that needs thawing out. I imagined this with someone like Richard Brake in the lead while I was watching it and made a better movie in my head.
