Dogdays is going to killllllllll me for this but.... I'm not a dog person. I never grew up with them. I've never been around them and I've never had a good experience with one of them. From a distance, their owners seem either pathetic and needy (small dog = surrogate child) or selfishly deluded (big dog = "oh he doesnt bite") Unlike cats... - they bark LOUDLY
- they are capable of IMMENSE VIOLENCE
- they smell disgusting
- they eat like dogs
- they shit wherever the fuck they like
- they need to be "walked" (?)

I wasn't really a dog person until my family got a German Shepherd. Amazingly sweet, intelligent animal, and order of magnitude better than the other dogs we'd owned. I'm a realist about them, though. Dogs need to be disciplined, and some dogs are basically untrainable monsters that should be put down. I'm all for a total ban on pit bulls.

I wasn't really a dog person until my family got a German Shepherd. Amazingly sweet, intelligent animal, and order of magnitude better than the other dogs we'd owned. I'm a realist about them, though. Dogs need to be disciplined, and some dogs are basically untrainable monsters that should be put down. I'm all for a total ban on pit bulls. Is it really that bad with pitbulls? My main interaction with them was a friend/pot dealer/jazz aficionado/master of the western inner tradition who had two pit bulls, slightly mixed I think but mother and daughter, and a black lab, who were great weed smoking companions, smacking their big butts as they slobbered all over you, and they would all play together with no aggression. However, my friend did say that if anyone ever came into their abode who meant him harm, they would act very differently. |

German shepherd dogs make the world worth living in for me. Sad to see pit bulls all fucked up. They were a great mixed-breed family dog before crack cocaine, if memory serves me correctly. People, myself included, suck. Dogs are all right most of the time.

Used to see an older gentleman walking his huge Doberman by the river in Hiroshima, on the backside of that drinking area I mentioned elsewhere -- Couldn't see tats but he looked very Yakuza. I was with some foreigners one day and he let the Doberman close and he seemed friendly to my female friends but when I went to put my hand out palm facing towards me, he said, "he doesn't really like men..." Oh ok... Confirmation came one morning when I saw him crossing the street near my work. The doors of the black Mercedes stopped at the red light open and two big guys in tight suits and even tighter crewcuts come out and bow deeply. Doberman owner nodded slightly and continued on with his morning walk... |

Often wanted to live in Hiroshima for the music scene, which seemed a bit less rigid than Tokyo's. The dog scene might be better, too. I am laughing about "he doesn't really like men..." because my German shepherd doesn't either. Puts up with men she sees often, but she bonds with women. I thought Tokyo was pretty damn hot so Hiroshima seems an odd place for a dog. I would have to look up the weather. Early morning walks sounds right, though. Late night walks worked all right in Tokyo with the pups. Saw so many others doing the same. The other half's sister had a Maltese, whatever that breed is called, so I would walk it. The dog, weirdly, liked me. Perhaps she was my lone friend, really, in that godforsaken place.
