I was initially a little weirded out by Bale's performance in the opening of the movie and the cheap CGI planes, but when he arrived in the camp this became pretty incredible. Everyone looked like a walking skeleton, and the factuality of the story makes it even more insane. I usually avoid extras on movies but watching these was pretty nuts. Bale didn't fake eating live maggots and a live snake, and the deep hostility of the jungle and the prison camp is relentless. Herzog is a madman.
