Kind of a Black Hawk Down knockoff, but instead of Somalians you get some aliens. One of the weirder B-graders, since it has pretty decent, production values and the cast is kind of top-notch. The score feels like it was taken from a stock music collection, and the writing is literally only clichés. The aliens are that inexplicable sort of civilisation that can travel the cosmos but has to engage in conventional warfare. I liked the alien craft constantly spitting jets of plasma. It has a fairly admirable good-guy death-toll. I like that it confines its point of view to the soldiers, with little except the occasional glimpse fo a TV to provide any exposition. It's not good, but it's also not annoying, meta-quippy or amateurish or, put another way, it's garbage but it takes itself seriously enough not to irritate. If you have low standards for sci-fi action, it passes.
I have a copy because it was in a discount bin for somethng like $3 and sometimes the promise of soldiers blasting aliens depicted with some degree of realism is too much to resist. In that sense it mostly delivers, especially on the A/V front, with very nice picture and sound quality. The bass impacts are demo-worthy.
