Skulking around Netflix and stumbled across the original Star Trek telly series. Don't think I've ever watched a full episode. 1966-1969 then cancelled. FFS didnt realise it was so short-lived. Pilot episode:More papier mache then you can shake a stick at. And Spock is the only one I recognise. "Captain Pike"? Who the fuck is Captain Pike? Where's Captain Kirk u motherfuckers? No Uhuru, no Sulu, no Bones, no Chekhov, none of them pricks. Anyway, in for the trippy 60's pastels and decor. And mindfucky 60's hallucinogenic plotlines. WFT. A smiling Spock? The pilot had some teething issues.
Also in for the bodacious 60's spunks in sexy swinging 60's space clobber.

Ep 2 The Man Trap.WFT. The entire cast from the pilot episode dumped to shit, no explanation. Suddenly we're back in the room with the real Captain Kirk as well as Bones, Sulu and Uhuru. Some rad planet imagery. Like a CHROME music vid.

Ep 3 "Charlie X"Goddamnit Jim, I've had this GIF in my photobucket for 15 years and now finally know where it came from; episode 3 of Star Trek Another episode highlight: Uhuru bursting into song for the edification of her swingin' 60's cabin audience: This just in: Star Trek's crew were randy as shit. Like all people in the 1960's.
I digress; back to the Chuckie Xster

Ep 4 Where No Can Has Gone
The lads are fairly unfussed when their crew members die. Just plough on nonplussed through space to fuck knows where and fuck knows why. Fairly nondescript episode here. All first 4 episodes had as the baddie some prick with psychic powers/ESP/mind control. No actual space battle bollocks yet. I thought they had some stoushes with the Klingons?

Ep 5 The Naked Time.
First sighting of the Vulcan Death Grip. Again, the baddie was MIIIIIIIND Control. First 5 episodes out of the gate, all the same baddie.

Ep 6 The Enemy WithinAnother episode where the baddie is inside your miiiiiind man. Specifcally, Captain Kirk's alter ego. 1st 6 episodes, no real baddies, just 60's-style MK Ultra mindfuckery

ep 7. Mudd's Women
Filth! Utter filth! Randy 60's erotica... in space! Finally the spell is broken and the baddie is not mind control instead it's.... a fibbing space pimp and his 3 space ho's:

The original series is all over the place. Some of the episodes are genuinely good, and some of them are so bonkers trashy it's a miracle they ever got through a scene.
When you've finished with this, do yourself a big favour and rewatch Galaxy Quest. Apparently the cast of the original and Next Generation are huge fans of it.

episode 8: What Are Little Girls Made Of?Considering it has the sketchiest episode title in television history, this episode dragged like a motherfucker. Huge hoary great soppy sook story. No cast. Just Cap'n Kirk vs yet more body snatchers. The only thing keeping my attention was the sexpot android chick in the outrageously revealing swingin' 60's garb

Oh, maybe THAT's why I liked this show. Green boobies are still boobies... Bewitched was one of the shows on at the same time as Star Trek in 1966 and I Dream of Jeannie started in 1965. Coincidentally, they both had brunette relatives who were the same actress as a brunette - of course, sexier bad girls. All three of the shows were definitely after-school rerun fodder for me in the mid-70s.

Took me a disturbingly long time to click that Serena and Liz were one and the same.... but then again, not such a surprise given my state when watching this show is one of complete brain distension and discombobulation. Don't even follow the plots, mostly I'm just fantasising about the 60's cars and room decor and wacky fashions

The original series is fun, but things really got great around season 2-3 of the Next Generation. I maintain the peak is Deep Space Nine, though.
