I saw a trailer for a Catch 22 miniseries a few years ago with George Clooney that looked absolute dogshit. Some of this scene is featured in the trailer for the new series and it is dogshit and an absolute affront to decency to try to create something better than this scene.
See the movie and read the book if you have never or even if you have and I might just watch it again tonight.

I was severely underwhelmed by Something Happened:
Heller's follow-up novel, Something Happened, was finally published in 1974. Critics were enthusiastic about the book, and both its hardcover and paperback editions reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Heller wrote another five novels, each of which took him several years to complete. One of them, Closing Time, revisited many of the characters from Catch-22 as they adjusted to post-war New York. All of the novels sold respectably well, but could not duplicate the success of his first novel. Told by an interviewer that he had never produced anything else as good as Catch-22, Heller famously responded, "Who has?"

Something I've read quite a few people say is it took them an age to wade through the book and it was a bit of a chore but in the end they loved it. It just has a sort of arrythmical cadence to it that seems to make it hard to get into.... even though it is great fun and utterly bonkers.
Almost don't want to see the film version as it would sully my image of Yossarian and the gang.

I remember Something Happened being more of a slog... So you have never seen the movie?

saw it on late night tv when i was 16 in my last year of high school. i missed the start and this before they had banners or whatever they are with the film name that comes on screen every now and then. so i had no idea what i was watching. i worked it out by the end credits and bought the book that same week. i hadn’t really read anything much up untill then. that is the book that got me started. having seen the film first, the images in my head while reading were heavily influenced by it. i could only ever envisage yossairian as alan arkin (r.i.p).
