Definitely not for anyone with a sensitive disposition. This is one of the more brutal mediaeval flicks I've seen. Verhoeven really doesn't pull any punches in his depiction of dark ages Europe and its attitudes to women and violence (and graphic combinations thereof).
It pulls a neat trick by making the combat about a more personal story, and so the slightly smaller scale battles can be really nicely done instead of badly faked.
Ruined a bit by old-school European ensemble ADR and some overly capering performances. The Blu-ray's picture quality is very patchy, sometimes really sharp but often flat and noisy, although there are a few scenes where this is a bit of a relief. Not a hint of DNR, just old scanning tech.
