Re-watched this one for the first time since release, since I felt like showing it to my girlfriend. She loved it and I enjoyed it as much as I remembered. I love creature films that use low-tech approaches and the aliens here are great. It's definitely not a very scary film, it's mostly just good fun. It has its influences but never beats you over the head with them. My girlfriend pointed out that the opening scene with the creature in the shed is a precise inversion of the garden shed scene in E.T., which I hadn't thought about but made me laugh in hindsight. Apparently it was a bit of a flop, which is sad for something with its budget but I hope it at least recouped its money in disc sales over the years.
