Victor Garber as "Jesus" is just part of the weirdness of this film. The drugs in 1973 must have been really strong. There are some good show tunes in this film, but they are buried within the weirdness of it all. Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and this film are quite different despite often being lumped together. I wanted to like this film, as I quite like the musical. However, the dialogue lacks any subtlety. The setting does not really jive with the dialogue. On the right drugs, this film would be all right, especially if a person has dreams of Biblical proportions. How else can somebody enjoy Victor Garber prancing around looking like a clown? I have seen a few stage productions of this musical. They have all been much better adaptations than this film. Perhaps there will be another version made in a hundred years. If not, then "it's all for the best", which is a pretty good tune in the musical.
