Blind Date was a very good TV show. Not sure if it ever aired in Japan. There was an NZ one but no, never seen the US one. Japanese version would never work. All involved parties would sit there in stony silence until it's been established who has seniority and as such has societal rights to be the bully in the relationship.

There was a Netflix J-reality series called "Terrace House," which I watched about an episode's worth of. It was like a co-ed living situation type of deal. Think more Real World. The thing is, they kept the guys and gals kind of separate with the hope that they'd all eventually hook up or whatever. As it turns out, the show was a snooze-fest. NOTHING happened. It was kind of relaxing to watch it was so uneventful. There is a segment in which a J-guy cooks for the whole bunch, and it apparently it tastes like garbage, but no one can bring themselves to say it. So instead they say, it tastes "light." I imagine that's the polite way of saying it's dog shit.
