Every time I've visited Japan I've rented a pocket wifi, which I always kind of resent, and appreciate. Anyway I guess now there's something called eSim which I don't really get but it seems like you download an app pay $20 and then you have "10 gig" (do not understand, cannot possibly tell you how many gig I use on a day to day basis on my phone outside of wifi but I imagine very very little) access of essentially wifi on your phone (everything works but you can't take calls on your # -- boo hoo, I mean hooray).
This just seems like such a huge improvement, I don't have to have item #1 at the airport be find pocket wifi area and hope they come through (it's Japan so 100% accuracy, always perfect). But still then before I go home I gotta drop the bastard off -- this sounds like an absolute dream, where I just put this on my phone in the US, turn off cellular, make sure it works, and then it should work exactly the same when I land?
I am excited beyond all reason.
Also wifi on the plane is like $20. You already got me for $1900 so not like I don't care about money but if the flight was $1920 obviously I would still take it so... I don't know. I am an old man looking to figure out if wifi over the ocean actually works. You'd think the internet would tell me but I haven't really been able to figure it out yet. But absolutely I would pay $20 for my phone to work on the 13 hour flight to Tokyo.
Unrelated: the vape pen is the new whiskey flask. If you walk into a bar and hit a vape pen it's like, totally, get it. Carrying a flask will get you kicked out and possibly fined.
