Atypical Russian Kurosawa film about a native Siberian hunter who guides a Russian military surveying team through the wilderness. It's one of those old-fashioned historical films where they don't confect drama, but at the end you're still welling up. Special props to Maxim Munzuk in the title role for completely embodying the man in the most charming, affecting way imaginable. Transfer isn't stellar which is a shame for a film shot on 70mm, but the visuals are still great.
