The World at War

Finally got this on sale. Blu-ray remastering is great, although obviously the source material is mostly pretty rough. Even so it's a novelty seeing this sort of footage with its natural graininess instead of video artefacts from ancient telecine conversions or overcompression. They even did a tasteful surround mix. 

I didn't realise the series was from 1973, only thirty years after the war, and already most of the veterans interviewed look ancient - although obviously most of the people sitting for shots would have been senior figures in their respective militaries at the time. Amazingly, in 2024 this series is now much further from the present than it was from the war itself.
