Hot damn, this is really good. Ignore the press moralising about it, it's not what I think most people imagined it to be. Phoenix puts in a performance for the ages and while he elicits some sympathy for his Joker, he is clearly a monster under whatever tragedies have befallen him. He manages to make some of the capering of the character seem like natural behaviour. It also looks and sounds great. This feels like someone snuck a real movie in under the guise of a comic property.

watched this during two week stint in hotel isolation after studiously avoiding it since a friend telling me on multiple occasions how much i would like it. even tho i didn't like it as much as he thought i would, i liked it more than i thought i would, so technically he was right. definitely has more than a bit of a trojan horse real movie disguised as a marvel franchise movie thing going on. de niro's rupert puppkin reversed is a nice touch.

Haven’t seen this one because it looks really stupid. I mean, I can never buy Joker as the leader of the incel revolution. That’s not the Joker I or anyone else grew up with. I mean, just look:  He was always surrounded by beautiful women. You can probably make a convincing case that Joker was queer, but never ever incel.  Also everybody knows that the real Joker is supposed to have a full mustache under his makeup. I appreciate Juaquin Phonics as an actor and as a troll, but sorry not buying his Joker. |
