One episode in and I'm in love with this show.
These girls must be 30 yo playing these 13 yos, one has eye wrinkles I don't even have, and the other has lines on her neck. But they're absolutely perfect and it makes it even funnier that they're so much older than the characters they're playing. And other than noticing the wrinkles and lines, you would never guess in a million years that they aren't teenagers. Crazy.
This is set in a middle school circa 2000 but it could just as easily be set in the 70s, 80s, or 90s.

Sounds like the same scenario at work as Summer Heights High where somehow a white middle-aged NZ man somehow just absolutely became a 14-year old polynesian boy.

I like this show, although the second season is a little more bleak. It’s very accurate about middle school life. Though somebody screwed up big in coming up with the title. If you look closely, it looks like it says “penis.”

Yeah, the title is problematic, and I won't be watching the show.

Is this one of those things where if you type out "PEN15" on your calculator it looks like a rude word?

Nope. Still won't be watching this show. That Asian girl in particular looks 55378008.

That article only briefly touches on it, but there's a lot of outrage from QAnon types, saying the show is trying to normalize pedophilia lol. This is because the leads are played by two adult women. But any scenes involving physical touching with younger actors uses obvious stand-ins and cheat pov shots, and it's barely more than kissing.
It's not crazy graphic but it's surprisingly graphic, like the shot of the period blood surprised me, I don't think anyone has ever shown that before. I mean for most of my life period blood on tv has been represented by a clear blue liquid on maxi-pads. This show is an absolute force in some significant ways.

I love Gabe, his story is so touching and real. The show is so good at showing instead of telling. Over a few episodes, there were only 3 very quiet, quick shots that relayed what was happening, and you could tell from the very first shot what it was.
And I love Taj and Maya's story, it's so sweet.

1 episode in, almost had a heart attack in my heart when as the pair are walking over to the big bad 8th graders an UNWOUND song pops up. WTF.
