Another acerbic brit panel comedy . Acerbic comedy is how the brits vent out their class-stratified butthurt and they are very good at finding weak character points at putting the boot in to themselves and one another. Fittingly, given their rain-soaked sunless climate, they revel in misery. And thats just the general public and on telly. Once they get the anonymity of an online presence that pentup hostility is amped up and given full reign to exact petty revenge on the wrongs of the world. Really do wonder what happens to so many UK types when they get behind the anonymity of a computer screen. All the residual pent-up butthurt of living in a gloomy bumhole accentuated by their class-stratified panopticonification suddenly gets unleashed online all over some poor git they've suddenly found they might get away with lording it over and belittling. Ever heard of a laconic pom? Nope, me neither...
Either way it seems UK types present themselves in print as the most viciously unhappy and hostile people on earth. A Syrian refugee lying facedown in the rain in a puddle of muddied blood, bullet casings and orphan's teeth would be happier than your average wretched online uk git.
As for Mock The Week, it's pretty much limping along now. It has its moments but kind of lost its nuts when Frankie Boyle left. The guests are rarely quick-witted enough to make up all the "impromptu" gags on the spot. They clearly get the cues beforehand then just regurgitate their standup bits from other performances. The red haired chubby woman spends most of the show looking down at her notes ffs.
Hugh Dennis was always my favourite but is increasingly going the Paul Merton-dozing-off-and-out-to-pasture route.
Host Dara is still funny as hell iHomo.

Lockdown episodes of this have been fuckign dreadful.
I reckon not having the audience to feed off has fucked up the comedians cadence.
Dont think I've even made it through to the end of an episode yet.
Plus if the redhead woman stares down at her notes before trotting out her brilliant off-the-cuff ripostes to these "impromptu" topics and questions ONE MORE FUCKING TIME I am going ballistic.

This fucking thing.
3 of the 4 "weekly guests" now appear to be tenured. Same poor fucks every time. The redhead woman is just such an irritating tryhard. She'll have 1 funny line an episode and that seems to be enough to sustain her entire career. Knowing the poms high quality threshold for professional comedians, she must get SAVAGED on the twitter etc.
Jesus, the latest episode I didnt even come close to laughing ONCE. Fuck is wrong with me.
Back in the Frankie Boyle days I was pissing mist for 30 minutes straight at this stuff.

I used to love panel shows but they started devolving into smug antagonism and token seat-filling a few years ago. QI was a lot of fun under Fry, but Toksvig is a miserably unfunny sow and every other time I've bothered checking up on it the show is about some historical indignity inflicted upon women or whatever. Frankie Boyle at his peak was so fucking funny but the guy is a massive hypocritical cunt now. Brexit derangement syndrome wrecked most of the talent at the BBC as they all felt their loss of cultural power for the first time.
I still enjoy 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown because it's 99% smutty insults and I actually enjoy playing along, and I enjoy The Unbelievable Truth with David Mitchell.

i find mock the week and its ilk of topical comedy shows insufferably smug and condescending. 8 out of 10 does countdown can be good when the guests are actually funny. personally i prefer 'would i lie to you' for a bit of frivolous zone out entertainment.
