I can't wait to see what happens with voting rights now that the Dems have the tiebreaking vote in the Senate. I imagine it will be one of the first things they deal with. And which position is Abrams going to take? |

One of my recurring daymares about the US election is that the far right has US security and military allies ready to kill a government in session, like how the government was wiped out in {Spoiler}
A Handmaid's Tale , and I'm sure there are other better real life examples of which I'm ignorant.
So, right now, right wing protestors in Washington are breaking into the Capitol. Apparently they were able to get past the police. I haven't seen video yet but are you kidding me? The police and security forces didn't prepare to control protesting crowds today, of all days?

That's an odd phrase isn't it? "primarily White men" - no doubt it's relevant to all of this but it surprises me that it's being reported this way.

I couldn't get to sleep until 5am last night because of anxiety about today in the US, even having taken a sleeping aid. I didn't know what or if anything was going to happen but part of me still can't believe this is happening. Someone has been shot, can't find details yet. But the lack of preparation for this had to be intentional and it is deeply disturbing.

I think right wing protestor leadership conspired with Trump and the police for this to happen. Right now everyone is saying it's a lack of foresight or an intentional lack of preparation, but I think it's worse than that.

Biden speaks and calls for peace and unity. I don't know what he should say but I really hope his speech isn't foreshadowing a lack of action once he has the power to rightfully condone this and use the law so that Trump, the GOP, and these protesters/terrorists face legal consequences.
