Rewatching this as enough time has passed I've basically forgotten it and the missus and I have burned through all new available content.
I like it! I don't "love" every moment, but overall it's funny and interesting and moves at a fun pace.
I had watched the Birthday Boys and thought some sketches were great and some not so great but Mike Mitchell kills it in Love.
I think I was so fascinated, and aroused, that I looked at his Twitter and found the Doughboys podcast.
Oh boy. Have you ever actually gone to see a podcast "live?"
I have.
I like that The Doughboys more or less encourage their crowd to be rowdy, though I did think my friend was actually going to get kicked out or get his ass kicked (not by the performers, just by decent people).
I think it's absurd the Comedy Bang Bang contingent will tell you, seriously (I have not gone in person but I've heard this from people and on some live shows) either to not drink too much so you can fully appreciate the Art of The Improv, or openly mock people for getting up to get beers. I mean having a night out is a bitch, between the ticket service gouging, transportation/parking, maybe some of the poor fucks are paying a baby sitter to get to go. If I wanna blow another $50 on overpriced Budweiser, get off my ass, bitches!
Anyway Love is pretty good.

ahahaha... say wot? ? It's funny, Termbore turned me on to comedy podcasts early on! I had unfortunately gotten addicted to Lost podcasts ~ there were a fuck-ton, so early WTF and the Jimmy Dore Show was my methadone and proved harder to kick, so I was mainlining Doug Loves Movies, CBB, Walk the Room...sure my use peaked at one point - or should I say rock-bottomed when I tried to kill myself after Earwolf was bought by Scripps because I felt so terrible that I couldn't figure out a way to buy stock early on! But God bless Matt Gourley or whatever, now having to brown-nose Conan! (jk ~ love Andy Daly and Gourley's Bonanza podcast ~ with the great Maria Bamford too!) Even today though, Improv4Humans is still a subscribe and Paul Rust had some hilarious moments and a very distinct improv brain on that show that I suppose shows through a bit in Love. Gillian Jacobs is much loved also ~ but I think I stopped watching Love around halfway through season two, so yeah...pretty good. But I also cancelled Netflix around then...I do still have a lot of comedy issues though if you think a general-purpose comedy thread would serve a purpose (?) I am talking stuff like this tho. yasminnair.com/your-trauma-is-your-passport-hannah-gadsby-nanette-and-global-citizenship/

Love it that I do not have a single clue about any single one goddamn thing in this entire thread. This entire post below is just a colossal wifiwft: I had unfortunately gotten addicted to Lost podcasts ~ there were a fuck-ton, so early WTF and the Jimmy Dore Show was my methadone and proved harder to kick, so I was mainlining Doug Loves Movies, CBB, Walk the Room...sure my use peaked at one point - or should I say rock-bottomed when I tried to kill myself after Earwolf was bought by Scripps because I felt so terrible that I couldn't figure out a way to buy stock early on! Are podcasts what Joe Rogan does? I might've youtubed a couple of hours of those back in the day.

Sorry bout that, deep comedy podcast insider baseball bs...Joe Rogan is a fucking idiot non-funny pos...to put it lightly. That "Serial" podcast was the first one to really become a mass hit I guess. It is just people talking and talking and talking. How it came to be popular, when it is really just a recorded radio show, is quite interesting. Ricky Gervais' radio show that was traded on mp3 in the early 2000s is considered as a proto-podcast:
I am fully aware that it is highly likely you do not care for Sir Gervais...I find him highly annoying now too, but he was fine before all the air blew up his head...
A lot of comics I first heard on podcasts in the late 2000s/early 2010s soon became visible on tv and in movies, like the actors in this show, with some even becoming major "stars" like Kumail Nanjiani...

Oddly enough, I still enjoy Gervais in anything, fathead phase and all. Although that new "After Life" thing was a downer. Started so promisingly, the complete disrobing of inhibitions and social mores. Soon drowned in overly serious melancholy treacle. He gets paid a truckload and has free reign to say just about anything he wants. His standup special from about 5 years ago was mental. At least he's still pushing the limits. Although as per that podcast you can't say "mental" any more. You have to use rhyming slang and say radio rental.

You can tell the ones my friend led because he'll get like journalists, activists, publishers and so on. I just try to get guys from old punk bands (Undertones, Rotters).

I don't see what the difference really is between a radio show and a podcast when you get right down to it. Podcasts are basically radio shows with very specific content.

cool! I have been listening to some of the Turned Out a Punk that I am interested in and it is great to see more podcasts like yours! My old friend Jason Traeger, OG punk artists etc., is doing a podcast focusing on his punk youth and getting pretty deep into the early San Diego scene...mentioned me being on it also! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/traegermethod-podcast/id1541256187

I kind of agree, Rabid, but the cool thing is instead of having to listen at a set time or dial in a set station, you can pick any wildly specific topic you want, download it, and play it whenever/wherever. I realize they're trendy and there's a glut but I'm definitely a huge fan.
Sukebegg, that's excellent. I was just listening to the Keith Morris episode of TOAP. I will check out that podcast. What would you guest as?

Just to talk about San Diego punk, although he has now done nearly five episodes on it, so maybe he is sick of it... Podcasts maybe were trendy, but now they are just "very popular", no?
