Season 9/10 is where it starts to fall flat. That’s probably correct.
My gf was very eager to subscribe to Disney+ so she can watch the baby yoda show. After that what else is there? Sure you can watch Fantasia or Mr Toad, or some other shit you vaguely recall from your childhood. But at least Disney+ has the Simpsons!

Wouldnt mind watching the first 10 seasons all over again. Wonder how much its dated/become unacceptable here in WokeWorld? Might be fun to watch with a millenial as they wheeze into a paper bag having a panic attack every time they hear the white guy doing the voice for Apu.

Season 3 E1 was the Michael Jackson episode 'Stark Raving Dad'. I think it deserves at least a 9/10 but 8.6 isn't bad.

S31 has had some solid laughs.
6.5 for eps 15 and 16?
Solid 7.8's from me.
I like how they take the piss out of religion. The writers seem like the same ol' Gen X guys. Once those dudereenos croak though surely the whole thing will die. Can't exactly get millenial writers in to rain on every single fucken parade with their wimpy woke carob anti-life sooky whinging.
LOL@millenials. Gen X rulz.

Anyway, I'm not surprised that it's lower than the rest of that season, due to the nature of the episode, but lower than "The Principal & The Pauper", people??

A dvd copy of the Simpsons MOVIE was at the front of the shelf at the library this afternoon so I snagged it. I'm about to rewatch what might be history's least memorable movie.

I remember enjoying it but then again I am an easily amused drongo. ps hang abaout, didn't you used to have a Krusty the Klown avatar at Termbro?

Going to do it. Track down seasons 2 through 10 and rewatch them all again, in order.

Made a start on S2 but it was so pedestrian - and weirdly unexpectedly "wholesome" compared to what I remember - that I gave up.
Tried S3 ep1 but it was almost the same..... except it was really noticeable how sharp the editing was, cutting from scene to scene, that punchline sharpness wasn't quite there but the editing had sown the seeds....

Season 8 was my white whale of thrift store shopping out of the first ten so I finally broke down and got a cheap copy off ebay last week so I've been hitting that pretty hard.
I really wish that they had seized on the hype and made a feature length of the "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" two parter. Fucking incredible.

Have to wonder how these episodes would be rated if rewatched. S3 ep1 is an 8.6? During my rewatch it barely seemed like a 4 or 5. S2 ep 1 is an 8.2? FFS, felt more like a 3 or 4. And yet in the last 20 years there's only been about 3 eps that managed an 8? Yet S2 ep 1 is an 8.2? Hold me, mummy. Compared to South Park that shit is like the motherfucking Waltons. I literally LAUGH MY FUCKING ARSE OFF for 3 or 4 minutes of every 22 minute SP episode. I have to rewind that shit to see what I missed while I was subsumed by goddamn gales of laughter.

I’ve noticed this. I think this can be partly explained as a phenomenon where the new Simpsons season is so good it makes the previous season look worse creating some kind of diminished return on the oldest seasons. It fucks with the ratings of all seasons if you ask me. This is of course only true within the range of seasons yhat were actually good.

Had the Simpsons continued along this original trajectory we might be coming to the realization that the Simpsons only began to get good at season 25 or something only to go back and realize that season 25 is dogshit compared to every season that came later.

I refuse to think about this too deeply as I am concerned such deep thinking could result in brain damage.

I watched Groening go from his strip in a free weekly to absolute stardom. Crazy. Good friend of mine worked at the studio that animated The Simpsons the first few years. They would draw the start and end of scenes, and then send them to animation sweat houses in South Korea to do all the tedious in-between drawings. I went to the offices once where my friend showed me various obscene drawing of Simpsons' characters the staff had made and I played The Simpsons pinball machine. Wild that the machine was released in 1990 early in the second season I guess... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Simpsons_(pinball)
I also ate magic mushrooms with said friend and his gf, for her birthday, for my first time. Went to a nice nature park out in Malibu and lost our heads, then went back to mine to watch The Simpsons premiere. I made tofu chili dogs...I also did acid for the first time with this same friend, after watching Do the Right Thing on its opening day. At the end of fabled Mulholland Drive with an awesome view of Santa Monica, down the coast, planes arriving and departing from LAX, and the Pacific Ocean stretching out...Started a bit before sunset...
Since I mostly lived outside of the US in the '90s, I really didn't watch too much of it - I probably checked in on it during my mid-90s internment in LA, but I really remember going through Tijuana a few times around then and just endless fake Simpsons shit being hawked.
