Watched this yesterday. I liked it but even though I hadn't read any reviews and knew almost nothing about it, I was expecting more. I think it's because the film is more for kids than adults. It's good but not great, imo. I think I wanted it to get into darker territory, but that would have made it too much for children. I feel like it skimmed the surface of a great idea. Animation is crazily life-like at points.

Interesting
I don't know that I agree that Joe's story took a backseat to the "white woman's" story - it wasn't even really a white woman, it was a pre-human soul with the voice of a white woman (Tina Fey). And even then, Joe's story was still predominant and there was even a point where he was thought to be the reason she found meaning to live. So... not completely on board with this criticism but it's worth reading AFTER you've seen the film.

The twenty minutes at the beginning and the twenty minutes at the end weren't bad. But I slept through the rest.
