That whole late-80s/early 90s vinyl dumping was also the rise of vinyl punk collectibles. So jarring to see stuff I had bought on a whim a few years before, well seven or eight anyhow, priced at 100 bucks on the wall of Bleecker Bob's in LA. Oh but, I really didn't have any first presses of Minor Threat or the Necros though so "worthless"...I do wonder how much I could get for that Deranged Diction demo tape and note from Jeff Ament...

I see your point but those are all on the LP. I'm not deep enough in to need the 7"s as well. I could live without Angst. It's good, but like serious plays per year < 1 so... this is just because my wife Camp Leader asked about it and I'm an adult and $40 isn't really that much. But it's gotta be in decent shape.

PS I am Hard Gay Records have been the single best example of understanding the economics of supply and demand and changes over time I have ever come across. I sort of knew in the back of my mind in the 90s even that there were very expensive punk records. I think I just thought wow, that seems odd, xeroxed cover, shitty recording, shitty pressing, the whole point was it was $3 or free and most got thrown away anyway so who's paying hundreds for that? Well, 20 copies are in known circulation. Some cunt has wanted it for 20 years, lost the last ebay auction 5 years ago by $100. Has job, is divorced. Will definitely pay $800 vs $500 this time around. It's fascinating! I don't think I've really come across any winners on the sell side like that. One of the best was this Yabby You record my friend talked me into buying, it's seriously 1 song versioned like 20 times; I never listened to it. I sold it to a guy in Germany for $200 who wrote me a weepy note thanking me for entrusting him with the treasure. That was fun. I bought this NY Hit and Run ska comp at Epicenter in California in.... god knows when maybe mid 90's for $4 and sold it for $30 later. Then.... I recently rebought it for $30. I like it! Mainly this Urban Blight song and one by a band called The Scene. I swear I recall reading that the fucking drummer for Urban Blight wound up in the Cro-Mags. Oh, all the brain cells I have squandered! I was such a cheapskate getting dubs of things in the first place half the nostalgia I'm now rampaging through is stuff I'm buying for the first time anyway....

It would be like handling the Mona Lisa or some shit. An endeavor so fraught with peril it would negate any pleasure derivable from the act.

vividly remember hearing 'peaches' just once on the am radio in a car in 1977 and thinking "...what the fuck is this, i gotta get this" i didn't know anything about them or punk rock at the time. just loved how unbelievably raw and real it sounded amongst the other shit they were playing that summer (the eagles, sherbert, doobie bros, peter frampton etc.) no idea why they played it that once and i never heard them play it again, although i lived in hope. wouldn't say they are my favourite '77 band cause thats the other great '77 outsider band that never looked punk enough for the uk fashion punks 'the saints'. i still own the first few stranglers lp's and would never sell them, even though i rarely play them.

Similar (somewhat?) experience here. Was driving through Texas in the band van and someone put "Get a Grip" on the lower end of the dial. Whole band looked at me like "Well, this is your shit, right chief?" and this was late 90s so no smartphone etc, just me being like "Please read the song title, Please read the band name" and they did.
Played the SHIT out of No More Heroes.
Did not care for Hugh's autobiography.

Compared to the lp versions of the songs, the 7"s almost jump off the turntable. Especially "Nice n sleazy". Huge difference in sound.

Maybe I'll pull the trigger on the London Lady 7" which I'm imagining exists.
Hell of a song.

This seems so much dumber than vinyl to me, which in terms of 180G repressings and what is thought of as the "resurgence" already seems pretty dumb. But I do know of small labels doing cassette releases because.... isn't everything kind of a joke now? Like doge coin and stuff where you make $4mm on internet LOLz and then do more joke stuff?

Cassettes make good, good sense to me. - They sound awesome.
- They're small and cheaply shipped unlike fucking LP's.
- Labels do them wholesale for $5 or $6 bucks. Unlike the fucking $20 vinyl versions
My most recent tape bought was this one which Earache still wholesale for $4.25 ffs.

I dunno. Isn't having a cassette player even more arcane than having a CD player? (That said I have a dual cassette deck hooked up and ready to go (that I never use) and playing a CD is a royal pain (I'd rip it on iTunes and put it on my phone, which they make brutally painful.))
But generally speaking technology has even overwhelmed me at this point. At a friend's or parents' house just give up. Connect by bluetooth and use a streaming service. These places are not even equipped to deal with a quarter inch to RCA L/R cable.

I dunno. Isn't having a cassette player even more arcane than having a CD player? I can't listen to cd's with any sort of enjoyment or relaxation at all. They just jarr tonally within seconds and I have the urge to shut that shitty shrill piercing sound OFF. Tapes I can play for blissful hours and hours on end. Especially through my current mofo:

cassettes aren't a perfect format they can have some annoying problems, but they are cheap and fast to make and cheap and easy to mail out. way quicker and easier to do than vinyl if you're doing small run releases and have a blandcramp page or whatever and want to offer a physical format as well.

I recently bid let's say L169.69 (pro tip, just the tip, I always end my bids in .69 1) in case someone is bidding xx.99 and 2) 69) on The Limit "My World At Night." The A side is a Beatles cover so thank you for clogging my saved search feed. And I did not win. I was of course outbid by about $5 ish but - what was that idiot's max bid? God only knows.
