This is a very good film but it frustrated me for two reasons. 1. There is absolutely a freedom and beauty that comes with living like this but imo, the film elevates this idea above the lack of choice and security available because of how the US, through its corporations, and the lack of affordable healthcare, is failing its citizens. The absence of personal and financial security for people who have worked their whole lives is a fucking travesty and while this film points to this idea, it never fully embraces it and puts it centre stage.
2. Frances McDormand is an amazing actor, I love her in everything she does and she makes important, relevant films that resonate personally and socially but I'm tired of seeing Frances McDormand play the same kind of character over and over again. I would like to see her play a horrible bitch of a woman, or anything other than this all-too-real average person dealing with the challenges of life. As much as I enjoy her in these roles, it feels like a waste of talent and range to keep playing the same kind of person. The characters are all different but there are such wholly different characters she could play, that she could play better than almost anyone. That said, maybe a film like this couldn't have been made without her, but I'd like her to shake it up.

It's fine. It feels like a decent '90s independent film. I thought it was an interesting mix of travelogue, anthropology and character study without being exceptional at any of those genres.

It's pretty much just Margie from Fargo looking like hammered shit and taking a dump inside her van.
It was quite rubbernecky albeit dreary as hell. Massive Oscarbait iHomo. Saying poetry to other homeless peeps? The Academy LOVE that shit. Fuck you Bay, Margie is going to the Oscars!
Given the current climate in Jesusland, I bet there are millions pondering this lifestyle of opting out from the white-picket fenced American dream to dick around in vans. Oh you want me to slave away on Bezos assembly line, wearing nappies cos I'm not allowed a piss break, just to earn enough to afford a dunghole room to sleep in before I have to shuffle back to the autobot line at the sparrows fart? Fuck you Bezos, I'm driving my van to Yosemite.
