A week or so ago I saw the old bird on the telly and thought to myself, honestly, if you told me she had kicked off a decade ago, I'd believe you. Prescient, clearly a genius. Then, like a normal person, I thought of God Save the Queen, and how to this day it doesn't translate. That caused serious outrage. As a proud boy American, I just can't relate. Making fun of the president is a decades old tradition, and we don't have any other honorific figurehead.
If a band put out a single in 1977 titled "God Save the US President" no one would have batted an eye. God Save The Emperor... does royalty in the UK carry the same lightly nationalistic weight as the Emperor of Japan?
Probably. In America
1) you get a gun 2) no health insurance 3) you can definitely make fun of the President 4) no abortion (working on it)
5) we've carried forward this idea of "States" that seems pretty dumb to me*
*I could be wrong, as an American, I probably am, but I thought the initial idea was if you didn't like how it was in one place, you could just move to where it is more to your liking. But this is totally irrelevant to modern society. If I had a dollar for every bitch that said they were moving out of the entire country because of Trump, I'd have enough money to influence the election process. No one moves to another state because the laws are significantly different and they like it better. People retire in other states because of tax laws, that's about it. Now that we've started fucking with abortion people might travel or move, but that's a pretty disgusting state of affairs. No puns intended. We suck! USA!
