A perfect film. I was continually on edge because I was expecting some horrible racist thing to happen because it's about Koreans farming in Arkansas in the 1980s and Hollywood's been in lecture mode for a decade or two, but it's just decent people all round facing life's hardships. Beautiful.

it's about Koreans farming in Arkansas in the 1980s Doesnt sound like my thing at all but if The Vic says its a go then its a go. It has the asian fella from the Walking Dead? Surely they snuck a zombie extra into camera shot in a distant cornfield just to fuck with him. How could you not.

It was ok, I guess.
Kind of like a Starbucks coffee when you’re in a hurry. I personally luv it and my go to is the double espresso shot. But it’s happened many times where i go to order a double espresso and the barista corrects me with “oh you mean dopio espresso.” And on one of my most recent trips to covidland (nyc) i went to the FANCY starbucks by the hi line, and made things awkward between me an the barista when i interuppteed his script they make him follow about the different espresso beans or what have you.
I guess what I’m saying is that a24, though i may like a lot of what they do, are like the starbucks of cinema. They’re like the velvet underground t-shirt of the movie world. But they are the only people making movies these days. And my favorite films of the last 10 years are all a24s.

But it’s happened many times where i go to order a double espresso and the barista corrects me with “oh you mean dopio espresso.” This would be a public shaming for me as I dont know the actual specific names of any coffees. The barista could call it an "espresso de la cumquat" and I'd have to just go along with it as if it's a real thing. I am not a worldly man.

Here’s the crazy part. Dopio just means double in italian. If I knew that I would be expecting double the number of coffees and then when they only brought one coffee I would think to myself "who's the dopio now?" and laugh that quiet little laugh to myself that half-mental people do in public.

Well it is double the amount of coffee. But usually in the same cup.

Dopio means 'double' in Italian don't you know, and this dopio order is de rigeur in Pisa, Italy, which is where I am from, thank you".

Dopio means 'double' in Italian don't you know, and this dopio order is de rigeur in Pisa, Italy, which is where I am from, thank you".This is a nice fantasy, but my wife, who at the time was the head of the Portuguese department at the University of Cincinnati, and taught a variety of romance languages there, including Italian, got a chance to realize it when some barista putz deigned to condescendingly disabuse her of her incorrect understanding of the word "macchiato" (according to his big green binder in the back).
