Not moi!! Still from the great Apocalypse Now (the one without Mel Gibson!) ~ watch the Director's Cut as high as possible on whatever substance you have at hand! It will explain a lot, but I live there (here) now and some things have changed...Like the average age is 30 meaning most everyone out and about were born well after the American War ended here. There are older folk here and there of course, which is why I still cannot let my guard down even at the Banh Mi stall...splashed in the face with hot oil for something some dipshit 18 year old cornfed Nebraska boy did in 1969!! jk ~ that shit don't happen Nope, that ain't a dog you racist bastards, it is a delicious goat! In fact, I walk the doggo by here often and no one salivates...Hanoi though, we lived there one year, before the doggo but I could easily find one grilling a block from our high-class condo. Insects too, but they are peasant communists up there...bloody civilized down here. I just heard the other day there is still only one or two types of konbinis up there in Hanoi ~ they have become a bit of a plague and blessing down here. The best was having one about 100 m from our apartment building. It was the Vietnamese brand, so might often smell of Durian or be blasting music through karaoke speakers, but almost like a NY bodega I guess (it closed in chaos)...I picked up these konbini coconuts today ~ Mekong are rightly proud of their coconuts ~ trendy now I guess but fresh coco water is the bomb. Anyhow, I told the clerk no straws, and she comes running after me as I am loading it into my backpack outside the G25 (massive Korean konbini) and asks me, "How can you drink without these?", waving the straws. ahhh, almost would be like, "How can whitey know how to drink coconut?" but it was such a magnanimous gesture with only the best intentions. I told her I have metal straws at home cuz I was shamed-into-eco-conscious by a scandi teenager. Wax or something, just pop in a straw and suck...English among konbini clerks varies wildly ~ I had one hold up a local craft brew IPA I was buying and say, "Oh yeah, I like this one too!" ahaha right on my young urban dweller... ETA: Chilis from our plant and "herbal" medicine from #TreesForLove ~

Thought Viet Nam was like Singapore (or fucking Japan) where any tiny drug infraction and they just biff you in a fucking detention hole forever? 50 lashes or some shit, oh, thats Malaysia or Indonesia or one of those other psycho Muslim wackjob bumholes isnt it.
Nam looks way less stressful than mega butthole-puckered uptight Japan anyway.
Fuck Japan. Anal cunts, hamstrung by convention, the OG straightjacketed society.
Few years back our dolly bird college had a Vietnamese girl exchange student who worked with us in the conversation assistant thingy, she was WILDLY hilarious. Just an absolutely unhinged sense of humour. I was as old as her dad but Jesus she was a laugh. Although her B.O was just utterly fucking rank. Maybe a cultural thing. Fuck do I know.

You do see stuff about the death penalty for big-time hard-drug smugglers and occasional weed busts, but the latter is really given the blind eye, especially as it has become fairly popular (demographics again). That medicine bottle in the coco photo is full of local hydroponic herbals and there is plenty of imported if you're a baller...The big problem with that karaoke bust was they were supposed to be shut due to Covid. This happened a few weeks before the latest Covid bump:
40 USD is probably still less than the cheapest bottle service...
For sure the joie de vivre rate here blows away dour ol Nippon but the two countries are becoming ever more entwined - Japan is investing massively in the country to stave off China. I was in a small chain sushi place in Hiroshima a few years ago and two or three of the waitresses were Vietnamese, part-time student workers. I loved watching all the oyaji sushi chefs cringe as the bubbly Ms. Nguyens chatted casually and loudly with my wife and I about their home country. Especially here in the south they are really southeast Asian, so stereotypically bright and outgoing. The Northerners have a little more cold, Chinese character, to generalize greatly of course... BO? They were all riding bicycles and tending rice patties 20 years ago, so give them some time to get caught up on all the western cosmetic solutions...

Always a culture shock for me when I get to talk to an actual live human being with a soul instead of yet another one of the petrified pre-programmed local automatons. WFT am I even doing here.

There is a consulate guard station right across the hem (alley) from our apartment. One night I am bringing Ginger back after a walk and spot the big black scary dog from the station so I stop and watch it squat in the middle of the alley and leave a log then run back into the station. I went further down, motioned at the guards to come out and I showed them the fresh evidence: Guard: No, not ours! not ours! Me: Mate, I watched it squat right now! Guard: No, not ours! not ours! Me: (Some good mime work to mimic their dog) Finally he relents and orders another guard to pick it up...

Mate, middle of fucking Covid, making focking witty?? I'mma dox myself because this noodle lady was on my street! A few klicks down past the massive Archbishop residence but I certainly had to think if I had been in the area recently...I tend go on wondering street walks around my hood but now have to reconsider doing that... Back to the waiting game. If they track down the origin of this soup lady case and trace the contacts sufficiently, then I can breathe easy a little, but start getting more cases of unknown origin, and I don't think they will hesitate to go to a fairly strict lockdown (only essential services so conbinis and supermarkets stay open)... So, anymore Sperged-out jodans about things over here in "still kicking the virus' ass" Viet Nam from over there in "looks like the US a year ago" Japan, and I kill this puppy. Don't doubt me for a second.

So, maybe you have heard they discovered a Vietnam variant of Covid, and then a cluster in an evangelical sect in HCMC. The north, in an industrial park area in Hanoi, is is gettting hammered, but Saigon has gone into "Directive 15" lockdown with some 40 cases. Essential services only. Taxis and Grab still running. Cafe/Restos open for takeaway...I txted a friend to hang out a few days ago...I knew there was a public call for people who had visited a few bakery places in District 2 ("Q2" - an expat heavy neighborhood ~ about a 20 usd roundtrip taxi, so even though lots of good expat grub etc., we don't go out there much) to contact the government... At least I finally have some work from Japan so that will help me make it through the lockdown, which will be at least two weeks but probably longer...(Plus the wifey can apparently still do some golfy (AKA: Freedom from 4:30 AM (it's dry season and bloody hot) until 2:41 PM and added nap/pass-out on the couch time...)

What's her handicap? (apart from you of course LOLL)Whenever I see a dog this size my first immediate thoughts are always: - could I get the elevation required to successfully kick the dog over some rugby goalposts?
- what sort of footwear would I need so I didnt hurt my fucken foot on the mangy little yelping wankers arse?

He was a real pup there, now a bit bigger. Eight kilos or so and tough, so he might have that little snaggletooth jaw on you pant leg in a flash, you go down, another flash and he is at your throat...

Where the fuck has Tsukebbo gone?
Systems indicate he is the 3rd most prolific RT poster behind me and Ladyfingerer. And as such his absence has caused the forii to fall into dilapidated tumbleweeded ruin.
I hold him directly responsible.
This is very serious.
