I had started season 1 when the show first came out, but somehow got sidetracked and never finished.
With Odenkirk appearing in Nobody I started getting a few scenes from BB and Better Call Saul in my Youtube feed. And I was reminded how good the performances in the show were.
So I started season 1 again about two weeks ago and as of last night I'm halfway through season 4.
I was surprised how good an actor Aaron Paul was. He held his ground with the more experienced cast.
And Jonathan Banks is fantastic. Considering they invented his character on the fly because Odenkirk wasn't available for shooting that day, its remarkable what a great character the writers created.
All I know is - Giancarlo Esposito should be sending his agent a fruit basket for getting him on BB, The Boys and The Mandalorian. Holy shit.

Started watching but with hackles raised at all the hype, but right from the opening sequence of ep 1, hurtling along in the RV with malcolm in the middle's dad driving in his filthy gruds and looking petrified, knew this was going to be something special And Jonathan Banks is fantastic. Considering they invented his character on the fly because Odenkirk wasn't available for shooting that day, its remarkable what a great character the writers created. Wow, had no idea here. He's so good in Better Call Saul I've kind of forgotten what he did in BB. Used to fast-forward past ALL Skylar scenes in BB. Minutes at a time. Weird how history has kind of expunged her from the narrative. Cant even really recall what she looked like now...

When I try to think back now, I can't even rememebr why she was so terrible. She looked nice. Maybe cos she was a killjoy? A whinger?

I don't share the hate for Skyler. She functions as Walt's conscience and her gradual descent into despair is really well done. If the show didn't have her, it would be far, far less tense.

Yeah guess she really was the mooring as Walt went increasingly adrift at sea.
Can't really recall why I skipped past all her parts. Maybe cos they were so weepy? What did I want, her to join Walt in the drug biz? FFS maybe I did!

Absolutely; I mean, I've seen people complain about her constantly getting in Walter's way, but besides the obvious problem with that complaint (because Walter's obviously becoming a scumbag, so we should want to see someone get in his way; I know I did), her presence on the show naturally adds so much more drama to the situation, because if she doesn't stand up to him, all of a sudden there's a lot less conflict, and I definitely know I wouldn't want to see that version of BB by comparison.

Some lunatic loaned me this series on DVD long, long ago. I couldn't watch more than an episode or two. Just shut it off. Skyler, to me, was the only person who I was remotely interested in. There was potential for some development as a round character. The rest? Didn't care about them. Not a bit. No feelings at all for them. I suppose I have known too many junkies from way back and their dealers. Fuck me fuck me fuck me. Television is no place to think about reality. I suppose this program was just too much at the time, plus the person who loaned it to me is one of two people in my life that I would actually believe a diagnosis of "malignant narcissist" so that person's love of the program sort of weirded me out years later whenever I heard about it. The actors were great. No doubt about that. Better Call Saul might, I suppose, be of some interest to me. I remember that character being well done. Okay, fuck me. Nobody gives a fuck what I think. I am just venting, I suppose.
