Interestingly, there was no proper release of the soundtrack until the '90s and the release of the director's cut. The only version you could get was a very corny non-Vangelis version by the "New American Orchestra", and even the official release is kind of ropey. There are literally dozens of bootlegs grabbed from all kinds of sources to get all the music from the film as accurately as possible.

I’ve never been too impressed by this movie even though i love the book. I still would love to watch the version of it with the hard boiled narration from Harrison Ford.

The Theatrical Cut (with narration) is still available on the 5-disc Blu-ray set that includes the Final Cut, Director's Cut and Workprint.
