I don't understand this one but I respect the sentiment and the "we are now living in the future" vibe

I went to get a Japanese mobile phone number since we are going to be here for a while and dealing with some rental SIM card aint worth it. Picked up a spanking new Google-brand phone mostly because it was discounted so much it ended up being around 35,000 yen - the same as the lowest end phones, which I was told are for seniors and don't have much memory but do have gigantic fonts...Can't put a mini memory card in it so good thing I have 200 gb on my Drive account for tuneage. Even broke down and bought in-the-ear wireless headphones for the first time but opted for some that have a wire connecting them because otherwise I'd probably lose them fast...
Also, walking the doggo around my hood I have noticed various huemans with eyes glued to the phone as they wobble down the street on a mama-chari. Not just teens but grown-ass men wft...can't wait for one to run into the pup so he/she either gets bit or sued...

How much do the cunting things cost a month?
Not going to get one, mind you, just looking to conscion spending that amount on records guilt free.
"You pay ___ yen to aimlessly scroll past tik tok cats vids meanwhile I've used the exact same amount of $$$ to buy records I can actually hold in my hand for the rest of my life."

It's like 3,000 a month I think. We have a family discount with home Internet also but now the wifey is like, Docomo has crap coverage if you go into inaka. I think you would pay the same for a non-smart phone probably. Do you even have one of those?
Another funny keitai thing recently: Went up to a self-checkout register at the supermarket and notice the previous customer left their receipt and then I go to hang my shopping bag and see they left their phone also! I immediately call staff over who thank me profusely while probably wondering why this foreigner is so honest...C'mon lady, it's probably one of those old people phones that I don't need...quite yet. But the customer was apparently long gone.

It's like 3,000 a month I think. Cheaper than I thought. I guessed the kids paid 10k a month for all the bells and whistles options. It's their staple form of entertainment after all, their lifeblood and sole mental sustenance that encompasses their entire self worth.

Key to surviving the phone is disabling all notifications except text and phonecalls. Nobody who isn't willing to use those should interrupt your day.

Yeah, if you need to use a lot of roaming data for TikTok videos and chatting with your long-distance boyfriend/girlfriend (the BEST type of S.O. really) while sat at the FamiRest, then it probably hits 1 man. Add in the wifey's phone and our home Internet, if we can ever get it installed, and the entire bill will be over 1 man/month...
