Joe Rogan

Rogan has a bigger audience than CNN, which is funny. I find most of his opinions perfectly benign if a bit handwave-y left-liberal at times. The fact that he's characterised as "right wing" by corporate media is fucking hilarious. The only thing he has in common with the right is that he's slightly more biologically determinist than is currently politically correct.

Rogan's gift, and it is a preternatural one, is as host of the podcast where he can put an incredibly wide array of guests at ease and relate to them/get them to open up. Who can mummys bedroom-dwelling incel dweeb with his brilliantly cutting youtube hatchet job vid relate to in a social setting?

My friend has been listening to a lot of Joe Rogan, I guess his podcast is a few hours long and daily? I think he listens to it all. Chicken and egg, I can't say my friend became more conservative after listening to lots of Joe Rogan, probably the impulse was there and he leaned into it via the podcast. Anyway I've never heard the JR show; I know him because all the liberal comedy podcasts I listen to make fun of him.

I guess I'm less disturbed by my friend leaning slightly more conservative (rest assured, he believes the person currently in the White House is the accurate winner of the election, you should get vaccinated, etc) than I am by him listening to a bad boring long podcast. I want to be able to say that and feel like I shouldn't if I've never listened at all so I watched a 2 minute youtube clip. Confirmation bias confirmed.

Also briefly tried the clip above - I feel like it presupposes that someone said you shouldn't explore dark ideas in art and this was taken seriously and responded to and then pivoted to grandfather masturbation at a minute 40. I'm not particularly offended, I'm just not willing to keep paying attention.

Any links? I'm not a podcast listen person (especially American ones) due to the yanks passive aggressive beating-around-the-bush style.

Confession Time: I've never listened to a whole Rogan podcast. 3 hours? Fahhk, you'd have to get David Yow on there for that to happen. The most I think was an hour on the Elon Musk one before I cried off due to Musky's cylon eye thing rapelling me out of the narrative

Corporate media gives you a few minutes at best with famous people and intellectuals and asks questions purely to generate hype if the person is affiliated with their corporation or outrage if they're not.

Rogan has three-hour, unfiltered conversations with those people, who come on his show because it's the biggest podcast on Earth. Listen to Rogan's Quentin Tarantino, Rob Zombie or Billy Corgan interviews. They're excellent. Just ignore the ones you're not interested in.

Can relate to his point on the ever constricting properties of language though. Even as reported speech in a narrative you can't say "faggot" anymore. So sorry, using that word, even in attribution to a fictitious character, means you are homophobic.

I really don't know what it is that attracts all these Gen X men to the Rogan/IDW thing. Perhaps it really is a deep-seated fear of loss of control and trying to hold onto to the idea that liberal Western thought is somehow a pinnacle of terrestrial evolution and if we veer even a half-inch into "multiculturalism" (ie the real world), all our great logical scientific institutions (ya know, like the Catholic Church) will crumble to dust and millions of white men will end up in woke gulags preventing that Golden Future BoaPW. 
There are myriad "third ways" to look at and think about all these current issues that go beyond Traditional Culture vs. Marxist/Woke perspectives, which are really specters anyhow.

I really liked Mr. Show so when I heard about Comedy Bang Bang (a couple Mr. Show related people) I was all on board. I've really come around on Hollywood Handbook. Probably not the best one to start with but when funny, really really funny. Doughboys is good. I think the golden era is gone as they've gotten pretty much legitimately rich and famous and have to have boring guests on. But when they're fucking around with other people from their comedy scene it's great. Ostensibly about fast food which obviously I don't care about but it's still good enough to enjoy. The Sloppy Boys is great, like Doughboys but about drinks. Many more, TraegerMethod is 1 degree of separation from the forii and there is my own, The Modernist Society Podcast. We talked to Robert Whiting a couple weeks ago and are editing now...

It's important to remember that multinational pharmaceutical corporations are faultlessly ethical and transparent and completely unmotivated by profit to engage in regulatory capture, and corporate media are completely unbiased and never, ever fearmonger.

That is so weird and creepy. Of course, here in Japen we dont see any of those ads on CNN. They just switch programming to one of their 4 shittier less-known anchor self-promo puff piece blurbs which they repeat over and over and over until the channel is reduced to basically 40% anchor puff piece and makes you REALLY not want to tune in to the channel at all. Why bother? 40% chance it'll be the same numbskull blurbs they rickroll you with for 10 hours of a 24 hour day anyway.
