Had high hopes for spring 2022. Real high hopes. Like 80-90% confident. Now.... I can't even see fall 2022.
But I'd like to hear your take!

In my mind, due to the gaijin flippers being blocked from hoovering up all the good cheap shit for resale in their own countries, the Disk Union stores are bulging at the seams with goodies just waiting for me to get the fuck down there and get hoovering. I'm not technically a full-on flipper but I will buy cheap shit for potential resale if it will get my paypal balance up high enough to blow the lot on a wholesale order of goodies for me.
Japan will surely not open in 2022. You might say late 2022 but by then the Omicron variant will have been usurped by the far more deadly Gavaskarse variant and around and around we go.
Although fffs last time I went to Tokio in 2018 (?) the Disk Unions had wised up to the flippers and there were utterly fuckall bargains. Cheaper to save the airfare and just buy the same shit for roughly the same price on discogs.

Yah, I think WW3 will be involved but doubt anyone will be visiting after that. Plus, Japan might sink into the ocean sooner than you can get back in!
I think I could get back in with my wife, but we have been waiting for those fabled vaccine passports that would lead to quarantine-free travel...ahahahahahahaaaahh...If omicron turns out to be weak sauce, I predict Juneish I will be able to return with extremely minimal (3-day) or no quarantine on both Japanese and Vietnamese sides, but man, how long can they bar tourists from entering?
Anyhow, looking forward to meeting you all across the river from the A-bomb Dome in Hiroshima on Sept. 17th, 2023! The future, she so bright...

What a track. Almost had a heart attack in my brain when I stumbled across a vinyl copy of Freedom Bondage in the 100 yen section of Shibuya's punk Disk Union afew years back. Was almost curious to ask the staff "how the hell does a vinyl LP by this incredible band, from your country of Japan, end up in the dollar bin, here in the specialist punk Disk Union? Do any of you cunts even know anything about your own music?"

japantoday.com/category/national/japan-test-tour-by-4-thai-people-canceled-after-covid-infectionwonder how this will go down... "Yappari the gaijin are riddled with diseases. Their impure nature permeates through to their impure immune systems and exposure of We Japanese to these dog-like humans will compromise the pure-blooded aspect of finely-honed and advanced Japanese geneticism. Therefore we must close the barriers until the lax and lazy and diseased gaijin decide to take this virus and their infected impure physiques seriously. Sometimes gaijin can be insensitive to the seriousness of Japanese Lives. It is a fact that We Japanese were the victims of the first ever atomi

hmmm.... our observations indicate visits to Disk Unions in Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Kichijoji, punctuated by an implausible number of stops at kaiten sushi yas.
Who would buy a Strong Zero at the 7-11 next to the cheap chain sushi place and then order a beer with 4 plates of sushi?
3 pm Japan time. Didn't he have lunch at 1?
We have our best people on it.

There's a Sushiro by my crib that I have always avoided because it looks so terribly drab from the outside and is part of a handful of terrible chain places by me that I have been to once and vowed "never again" (sorry Genbaku survivors!). But the other day some of my buds here were singing it's praises - one dude manages a nice udon joint so I have to take it seriously and well, with the price of things here, I will most likely be visiting it soon, soy sauce lickers be damned. The key to kaiten sushi is to order what you want and get it fresh made- not just grabbing dishes that have been travelling around for god knows how long and licked by some local freak-oh young or old. The other crap chain places around me are a Joyfull (I thought it was Chinese food but now it's just generic fami-resto fare), Jolly Pasta (where "al dente" is really "al denture" soft) and a Coco's which I might consider for a coffee to sneak some smokos but I am sure they have been forced to abandon the smoking section. There are luckily a handful of decent options within walking distance including legit Indian that I will have to check out soon. There is also a famous "Shirunashi tantanmen" that I went to once. Terrible dark atmosphere and everyone sat around silent like it was some fuggin Michelin place or something. I like Hiroshima style tsukemen (and of course okonomiyaki). I had tsukemen in Tokyo once and it was just a heavy gross sauce - Hiroshima style is much lighter... twinspeakeatgo.com/hiroshimas-best-eats-unique-spicy-noodle-specialties-reimen-shirunashi-tantanmen/

Definitely with ordering fresh at the kaiten places. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, unless the place is fucking slammed. They put out joke stuff and it sits out forever because no one is supposed to take it, you're supposed to order, so nothing good gets put out. When the hamachi comes out it's snatch snatch snatch. I would just order a few at a time but there's the gaijin curse of the sumimasen, it often doesn't work, and then I don't know, it takes a while to catch on to being a foreigner and ordering in those places.
I had good luck with Indian in Tokyo... for the most part, there are some turds for sure, but it was easy to find a few good places and stick with them. It's sad to me I can't find a good place here in Chicago. We've tried like 10 (we don't eat out constantly this is over like 5 years, all the sadder).
Decent options within walking distance, I envy those days.
I shouldn't really complain, I can bike to 1 okay Mexican place and 1 pretty good falafel place. If I get lunch out 2x a week, what more do I really need...
(I say that now; 10 places in walking distance is better than 2 in biking and talk to me about biking through unplowed streets in the snow for 20 minutes to get a falafel in February, guess what, I'll be microwaving veggie burgers and whining about it.)

"gaijin curse of the sumimasen" ahaha right? Just yell "SUI MASSSENN" and zero reaction...You'll be happy to know it's the same or worse in Vietnam "em oi..EM oi...EMMMMM OOOIIIIII!!!"
I was just spoiled way too rotten on western and Indian and other Asian and of course Viet food* in Sai Gon. They have Uber Eats here now, so I tried an interesting looking sandwich place: two nice but small sandos for 2000 yen total delivered from across town an hour+ later, in a car I think. The whole experience just made me sad and think "well, Bourdain loved those crap conbini tuna salad sandos so..." At least my rant about shirunashi tantanmen yielded results: Just saw a new place near me, much more normal and lighter than that other famous place...
*Viet restos are more numerous even here in Hiroshima now but I passed a place with a fresh-squeezed sugarcane drink stand set up outside: 550 yen or about 5+ times the price on the dirty streets of Sai Gon.

I never got into combini sandwiches but my wife went bonkers for those egg ones which she said Bourdain endorsed. Not judging, the fact that you can get something not-awful for lunch at any convenience store immediately for under $5 is pretty amazing.

That guy is a moron but man, "obstruction of business?"
Start adding up the years for me - gaijin - intoxicated - used keigo when speaking to staff - forgot emperor's birthday - got sick of plain white rice
I'm looking at a life sentence here!

3 years, coppers prolly thought "let's throw the book at this little tik tok rik rol lol spacker, maybe it'll deter future bogan juuveee cunts from trying this shit."
Little toad is still getting sued to hell too I suppose so his fam are now in debt forever.
Plus the fucker will NEVER get a job now. He'll turn up to an interview at 7-11 and they'll say "heyyyy aren't you the fucktard who spat on the sushi? Well, well, well. The only question remaining in this interview is just how quick I can get around this table and bury my foot up your arse. No, crying won't help you, ffs, you should be using this time while I'm still talking to give yourself a running headstart......"
