Doug Stanhope, now there's a comedian I do not get. Somehow he seems to be racked with self-doubt yet utterly sure of his comic awesomeness all at the same time.  Eh? Stanhope's never struck me as wracked with anything. The guy is 100% hilarious. ShrugMcGee I just hear a guy talking. Damnit I dont like missing out on good stuff. He's widely revered but I can't see it. FFS@ME! |

 After the derisive slagging this got in the Guardian I had virtually no interest in tracking it down but it popped up on Netflix so gave it a burl. Started a bit slowly but after a while the laughs were coming thick and fast. I must be a caveman. Fuck me, you know I'm going to laugh at a bit about "chinamen". I might be the target market for this unwoke cancelbait. Just reinforces there's really no point in "critiquing" standup comedy. After all it is literally all just a big joke. Are they being serious? No, they're having a laugh. That's why they're up there, you maudlin fucking Guardian critic. Drama queen dickhead. Who cares if Gervais "believes" anything he's saying or not. That's not the point. He's not a spokesman for anything. He's a professional pisstaker. TL/DR; if you laugh, it's funny. |

Comedians. They seem to think of themselves as The Gifted Elite Geniuses Of Laughter and that what they do is an actual prodigal calling of some sort. LAMPS had a track about them on their last album. Wouldn't mind tracking down the lyrics one day
Seinfeld is the worst for it. He seems to think of himself as some sort of NASA scientist of laughter and no mere layman could possibly Be A Comedian. This just in Jezza; people all over the world make each other laugh all the fucken time every fucken day. It aint rocket science and it aint the special calling of a select few gifted genuiuiii who have decided We Are The Comedians.

The new Chris Rock thing. I wonder if he's lost it. It was fine and interesting with a few sporadic LOL's.... but I wasnt even close to pissing mist at any stage. He seemed to just be trying too hard. The crackling comedian of his youth seems to be gone. Got some old man meter now. Repeating every sentence 3 times so he could give himself time to remember his next line? I dunno.

Cant remember what scale of cancelled he is these days but I enjoyed it. Really fucking offensive. Lots of meaty paedo gags. Bit preachy but still 8.5/10
