I don't understand this world. No, not one little bit. The Cruise action machine is well oiled. The guy has not the slightest sense of irony or deprecation about being a berserker movie god and it probably makes his films better. The last few Mission Impossibles are basically flawless spectacles. |

I just don't seek them out. I keep getting just that much more stupid as I get old, but I still like action movies because they are now much "smarter" than so many "art" films. The camera work in action movies often astounds me. |

I got 4K and of all the films I own on UHD Blu-ray, this is the only one where the HDR really blew me away. I've got a demo-ish sort of disc called "Awaken" that's utter wank but looks great, and this absolutely thrashes it. The shadow detail is insane and the highlights pop like nothing I've ever seen. Sound is something else too, with the sub making my windows rattle surprisingly frequently.
I enjoyed this at the cinema but wasn't as taken with it as a lot of other people, but man, I really enjoyed the shit out of it second time around. Say what you like about Cruise, but this guy's commitment to all-out entertainment via actually getting stuff on camera is second to none.
