I know next to nothing about basketball and put it this on randomly, and i really think it’s pretty good. I especially like Kareem Abdul Jabar’s character.

I especially like Kareem Abdul Jabar’s character. Think I read Kareems house burned down a few years ago along with his massive record collection There's no way Jerry West couldve possibly been that much of a violent rude arsehole Man how did they find the guy to play Magic? He looks exactly right. Plus he's tall and can actually play basketball. Goddamn I got a weird pang when episode 1 opened Nov 5th 1991 or whatever it was. I was actually in LA to see the Lakers right then. Had my tix, rocked up the forum, Magic's on the bench. Where he stayed for the whole game. WFT. What a gyp. Get out there you lazy cunt. I've come from the arse end of the world for this. He announced his AIDS and retirement the next morning. I missed out on seeing him play by 1 day.

It's all good and well but as an 80's and 90's bball freek I already know how the story goes. deadspin.com/what-it-was-like-being-the-only-virgin-on-magics-hyper-1535483322I'd like to see a doco on what became of all those ladies at Magic's house orgies parties. They must be in their 50's and 60's by now. Maybe they're homeless crack ho's turning tricks on Skid Row.and could dish the dirt for a few bucks. Instead of calling it "Showtime", they could call it "Ho Time". "Yeah I sucked Magic's dick back in 87. I was part of his regular evening rainbows. That being, a white girl, a black girl and an asian. I am getting paid for this right? Then the big ol dumbass got the AIDS and suddenly retired from bitchfucking and us ho's all lost everything too. They told us we wuz gonna be in the movies if we sucked they dix. Lying muthaf****z"

I looke up Kareem’s record collection and the fire thing seems to be true. In the show they really paint him as this radical free jazz guy, but when i read like a top ten of his favorite jazz albums it was not as avant garde a list as i woulda thought and wonder if these affectstions are just for the show.
That being said, this show has a really fucking amazing soundtrack overall.

Along with Atlanta this might be the best show on tv right now?

Along with Atlanta this might be the best show on tv right now? Damn, this is high praise. Maybe I should get back into it. Drifted off after a couple of episodes. I'd have to say Severance is the best thing lately

I’ve heard good things about severnce chief but still have not checked it out.
Also from a music standpoint, winning time is really up there with the deep funk and jazz cuts.

Finally checked this out. Oh, 10 episodes and it's an Adam McKay joint?? Nice. Very slow developing for sure but it is definitely brining back some memories as I followed BB the most since a wee lad. Pretty sure I saw Chamberlain when he played for the San Diego Conquistadores in 1973! Definitely watched a lot of college ball, Saturdays after cartoons, and remember UNLV dominating as well as the incident with the coach's agent, vaguely. Hoa bubba, gonna watch this whole game, featuring Magic J (close your eyes for 10 seconds if you don't want to be spoiled) at Michigan State, before I watch episode 4!

The court looks weirdly barren, spartan even, (see what I did there) without the 3-pt line.
Wonder if todays players plonked on there would struggle to get their bearings

Such a different style of play, especially with no shot clock. Spoiler alert: Neither team scores more than 52 and it's basically point for point the whole game, so it's a grinder. Magic is still a freshman...

Kareem was the best. He could play in any era. Sorry that I never got to see him play live. Would have been great to see Magic as well. I did see lots of Hall of Famers who came through to play the Cavs, but it was hard to afford tickets to see the Lakers back then. They really were poetry to watch.

The three-point line and shot clock make basketball extremely stupid for me. It was much more fun when losing the ball could mean you didn't see it again for three minutes. Just failed track athletes and long distance shooters who cry "Foul!" at the slightest touch. So boring. Don't even watch it anymore at any level. Yeah, I guess I developed an attachment to the college type of play when the shot clock came into the pros. BB was the game I played the most, but never in a league, just recreation center pickup games and whatnot, and I was never any good, so I guess the college version was closer to what I played...I went to some UCLA games in 1984-5 when I lived in the dorms - Reggie Miller was a freshman also but the team was not good in general, so it was sad to sit there and look at the numerous championship banners from years before as we sat in last place. Also saw future Laker AC Green play against UCLA then. I kept playing and watching a bit into the early '90s - even while living in Mexico City and especially while dating a former Mexican Olympics team member. She never actually got to play in the Olympics but she could easily thrash me in one on one at will. Probably one of the last NBA games I watched was that finals game they had to break away from to follow OJ driving a Bronco down the freeway...
Had a weird coincidence when I was visiting San Diego and LA for Chinese NY ("Tet") in 2020 on the cusp of Covid. Spent about a week in SD visiting la familia, and would be leaving out of LA where my friend was going to take us to see a Clippers game. So, while having a beer in a local bar in San Diego (after enjoying a big ol totally legal fattie) where they were showing some NBA game, I started lecturing the Wifey about not to expect much excitement because of how crappy most regular season games are, and the one they were showing exemplified it perfectly as one team went ahead by 10 to 20 points early on and it just stayed like that for the rest of the game zzz. There was some chryon about Kobe Bryant but it didn't register since I figured he just gets talked about all the time. Wasn't until later when I was watching CNN in bed (on vacation is the only time I watch it) and I saw the tragic news of the helicopter crash. The Clippers game was a few days later and the area around the arena was crammed with personal memorials, just tons of people milling about. tbh, since I didn't follow NBA at all in the naughts, my most prominent image of Bryant was his rape trial...

I won't even bother to look it up. He's dead.

I tend to fall off most series i enjoy when it gets to the second season. Expecting the same thing will happen here but so far I’m liking the new episodes. One of the only shows i look forward to besides below deck down under.

Didn't realize there was a season two until last week. They seem to really be dragging it out more than necessary leading up to "Riles" taking over from the twitchy English teacher. It also seems they will have to make a season three to cover all the LA vs. Boston series...

Gotta get back on the ball. Think i only saw the first two episodes of this. Watched wild style and style wars the other night and there was a bit of music parallels between that and the new season of wt.

As I mentioned above, Reggie was at UCLA when I was there. I had a friend who had attended Riverside HS with Miller and said his older sister would constantly be teasing him for being such a gangly dork. Didn't remember Cheryl Miller went to cross-city rivals USC. I also had a gay friend in the dorms who somehow got into women's volleyball and especially this cute short Laguna Beach gal on the team and we would accompany him to some matches. I also forgot they had such a bad-ass team... Amazing what you can find on the Internetz... I remember liking this Filipina lady - Liz Masakayan. Was in the Olympics and apparently went on to have a beach volleyball career.
