Cocteau Twins - Treasure. too gorgeous. hot shit, that percussionne sound Coil - Horse Rotorvator. this is it. Ground Zero for weird musos
So good.
Cocteau Twins' peak for me will be Love's Easy Tears, from around the Treasure era. They stack so much noise into that song that I only noticed all the backing vocals a few listens in, thinking they were just guitar overtones. Literally cannot be played loud enough.
Coil and the esoteric scene that coalesced around that era were full of nonsense but some utter gems. Horse Rotorvator is amazing.

Long been tempted to get this: www.discogs.com/master/13452-Cocteau-Twins-BBC-SessionsI think at one stage I've owned all their LP's on vineel up to Heaven apart from Victorialand on cd. Also had all their 12" ep's up to Carolyn's Fingers, about 9 of them. Why did I sell about half of them. ffs I wonder if our tiny little forii could sustain a dedicated Cocteaus thread...

BBC Sessions is nice. I've seen some critics say it's a little unpolished and the final versions are better, but I think some of them are valid alternate takes in their own right. Plus, if you don't have Dear Heart as a bonus track on Garlands, this is the other way to get it, which you should because Dear Heart is an amazing track.

I probably already told the story here of being gifted a CD player from my pops and stepmom upon graduating from an intstitutshon of higher learning and I blew a fuse on them "da fuck imma gonna do wit dis?" in 1989. I took Forced Exposure's advice and bought a CD of the Cocteau Twins "Treasure" and fell in love with the ethereal nature of it, not being hyperbolic in the least, although it probably freaked me out at some stoned moment - DMT on tape?? Playing it occasionally over the next four-five years as I slowly gave into the digital thang... If you want to go down the mother of all Cocteau Twins rabbit holes, start with this recent post and follow the hashtags, if you really want to gaze into an abyss that includes Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley (Elizabeth's former lover and whom "Teardrop" is about, and drowned in Memphis). Just jammed Pearly Dewdrops, still great... secretsun.blogspot.com/2020/10/laugh-while-you-still-can.htmlI first heard about Chris Knox around 1990 also via Forced Exposure but it would be another 10 years or so before I heard his stuff...Also very transporting in his own special way.

My Cocteau Twins CD collection. Only one rarities comp to get before complete, although even that comp is mostly full of songs I already own.

Might make a nice forii backdrop. As said I gave up after "Heaven or Las Vegas" as I got it into my thick head they sort of "sold out" and went too normy on Four Calendar Cafe

Sounds nice on the discogs, might have to scab a cheapo cd copy seeing as the LP's start at $60 ffs
There's also this one which I'm pretty sure I had on vinyl but it was so boring I sold it. Who knows, now that i7m old and pathetic that somnabulant style might be more in my wheelhouse. www.discogs.com/master/4496-Harold-Budd-Elizabeth-Fraser-Robin-Guthrie-Simon-Raymonde-The-Moon-And-The-Melodiespsfffs this music came out 40 years ago. Almost half a century. To a Gen z millenial it may as well be Duke Ellington or some ancient old malarkie

Can get a better feel for the structure of the songs here but its a bit hit and miss. Hitherto and Flagstones versions the highlights for me so far

My older sister loved this stuff. All of it. All day long. Go for a visit to her place and hear it for days until you couldn't unhear it for the rest of your life.
