I am going record bin scabbing to Tokio and will be OFFLINE for 5 daysThere fore I leave the forii in the capable stewardship of the following foreign freaks: - P.P.Assportvisas
- P.Ussycat
Any problems, just sort it out amongst yourselves and be sure to clean up the mess before I get back. Failure to comply will result in forii wide sanctions being levied upon all involved parties. Fond Regards, -Forthreich.Godspeed The Vortex.

I killed P.P.Assportvisas. Sorry. Good! Never liked that guy. Him and his bureaucratic agenda.
Back from Tokio now. Might even blog about my trip at exhaustive length utilising the accepted Web Blog format. For now though:

Tokio was kind of miserable. Dragging my 2 tonne suitcase through the grey driving rain, up the stairs, down the stairs, back up them again. The city might be a high tech hub of innovation but how hard would it be to build some goddamn escalators at the subway stations? Those stairs have been there since the fucken war. Anyway, the shopping wasnt so great, DU are just too good these days, too organised, not many cheapies slip through their cracks. I wouldve been better off taking my 22,000 yen airfare and putting it towards postage to getting the same stuff and wayy more off discogs. The used bins just have the pretty much the same stuff in each branch, over and over. Picked clean? Now that I think about it, none of my fave bands were spotted over the 4 days and I went through about 12 branches with manaical precision. The Fall, flying nun stuff, Country Teasers, doom metal, 80's amrep, none of that stuff.
anyway, my haul, yet to be sorted into flippers and keepers:

Andrea True Connection - More More More Getting back into disco and this one is a classic. The second album is not bad either. Did you know that True was a pornstar? So if I wanted to, I could do a quick google search to find a picture of her sucking a dick.
Donna Summer - Four Seasons of Love Disco masterpiece concept album. Nice proto-electronics on this, thanks to modoro. I wanna have sex with Summer’s voice.
Captain Beefheart - Safe as Milk Probably the only album by the guy that I actually truly love, and like a lot. Abba Zabba is so fucked sounding in the best way possible. He walked up to the edge of the pier on this one. By the next album he would have jumped in.
Dr John - Gris Gris Wow! Holy shit, wish i had listened to this sooner.
Chris and Cosey - Trance Their best! Also a very sexy record.

He walked up to the edge of the pier on this one. By the next album he would have jumped in. still vaguely ticked off that my first exposure to Captain B was the "booglarize" vid on youtube, thought i'd go nuts for the rest of his stuff... only to find that was the only track I liked. Even the lp version of booglarize was nothing on that nutty hepcat youtube thing been going thru my tapes on the Pioneer T-9090WR i scored for $60. think its from about 1985 and retailed for $600 or so then feeling a bit dumb now having persisted with my old Teac for the last 20 years. I thought it sounded fine! Then I plug this new one in and there is a noticeable jump in sound quality. Never used "Dolby" on tapes before today. Always just seemed to muffle the sound. Maybe I was just using low quality tape decks? Dolby B on this prick removes the brightness and cymbal wash so perfectly from cobalt/chrome tapes. Dolby C still muffles but works brilliantly on metal bias tapes. Who knew Dolby was actually a useful thing #always_the_last_to_know
yesterday, all 90's: DINOSAUR JR: where you been. raucous and great. just such fine burnout music. the first half anyway. then it gets a bit dirgey.
SONIC YOUTH: thousand leaves. made a tape WITHOUT the kim gordon mewling vocals track and sudenly this thing is so fucken awesome
OF CABBAGES AND KINGS: hunters moon. still rooting this old band that had the Swans and Unsane drummers. I could listen to this shit all day. never get sick of it. This release suffers from the 1st track being the worst on the whole album. Most wouldve switched it off right there and then. Why oh why do bands do that. Lead off with their most unrepresenatative track and kneecap themselves.

YO LA TENGO made a tape of some cd singles. pretty fucken ace. sort of lazy neil young grungey. long dismissed this band as some sort of Matador soppy sookery. despite having never bothered to listen to them. dumbarse.
NEIL YOUNG weld. this live recording dont sound too ace. it aint no Live Rust on that front. Plus trying to sneak too many new tracks in with the classics is like trying to get an infant to eat his veges by mixing them in with shit he likes; he just ends up uninterested in all of it.
SLOMATICS estron. mushy doom that somehow fails to engage at length
MELVINS joe preston. stone cold 180-proof pure doom classic

THE CHILLS kaleidoscope LP. so great. all getting a bit too nostalgic these days though. My days in the New Zealand of 1987 are NOT coming back.
CONVERGE jane doe live 2xLP. combine harvester to the face. still rooting the slow tracks more
XTC big express. can live without this record. and this band. yeah, pretty easily.
WIPERS out takes LP. the first 3 albums and this = just total goddamn godhead for me

BOB DYLAN blood on the tracks LP - he rhymed "De la Croix" with "unemployed" ffs. well-deserved Nobel Prize BOB DYLAN -highway 61 LP -actually like this one better. except for "tambourine man". fuck off with that shit ELECTRIC WIZARD witchcult tape - total impending dreadful doom soundtrack vibe, god I love this DEAD C - taped highlights of "Future Artists". still need to pick my spots with these local NZ lads. but when it hits the spot, oh yes. EARTH -angels and darkness. boring and slow and repetitive, just how I like it

Finally found a pretty good tape player a Zenith solid state with radio, inputs for a mic. It’s pretty old, seems like it could be from the 70’s or 80’s, but it still runs. It’s pretty big and heavy.
So I’ve been going to thrift stores and picking up dollar tapes.
Willie Nelson - Without A Song is the latest one. I don’t know anything about Willie Nelson’s music but I like him because he smokes oui’d or whatever, so I figured I should at least listen to what he sounds like. Which reminds me of a funny Willie Nelson joke I once heard.
What's the worst thing a woman can hear after giving Willie Nelson a blowjob?
"I'm not Willie Nelson."

What's the worst thing a woman can hear after giving Willie Nelson a blowjob? "I'm not Willie Nelson." Went through a Willie fad (not like that) Stardust and about 5 other lp's. Glacially slow and peaceful at first but soon bored me. Might revisit when I'm 70+.

So I’ve been going to thrift stores and picking up dollar tapes. One of my mental conspiracy theoriii revolves around people switching from tapes to digitizeted ipods etc being one of the key reasons for the overarching unhappiness of people today. 5%. That's all you get of the music on those garbage shartphones that are devolving everyone into miserable automatons. Neil Young on his goddamn awesome Psychedelic Pill lp: 27 minute opening track, total godhead:

We were playing tapes a lot over the summer but not so much anymore. We got a lot of classical tapes. My favorite tape though is this shitty surf tape. It’s mostly Beach Boys and Jan and Dean songs. We’d listen to the radio too. But yeah not so much anymore and I’m depressed, so there may be a connection.
There’s also an 80’s new wave tape, a 90’s dance music tape, Inxs - Welcome to Wherever you are, a Time Life hits from 1958 tape, a hot hits of the 80’s tape, a late 80’s hip hop compilation tape from a local radio station.

Yeah I don’t really know what’s going on with those later albums. It seems like a lot of them repeat the same songs. But I like that sound more than the earlier more power pop stuff the band started out doing.

Weekend Stack
JOHN CALE vintage violence LP. some noice tracks here even though the recrding sounds flat as shit. very 70's. so glad I took a punt on that $2 beater copy of "Fear" 10 years ago due to its arty look when I had no idea who he was. Cant listen to VU though. The reek of pretension and self-awareness just backs me out of the whole thing NEIL YOUNG after the gold rush LP. goddamn this record sounds good. "Warm" as we Vineel Aficioandios say ISIS panopticopon 2xLP their guitar sound really was a bit shit on this one LEONARD COHEN songs of love and hate LP. the first one? hadnt really hit his stride yet iHomo SONIC YOUTH murray st dubbed tape. dismissed this at first but on revisit it has a few span out squall bits that are peaceful. maybe it was one of the opening songs that really annoyed back in the day SONIC YOUTH washing machine dubbed tape. i can go bits of this. The "epic" Diamond Sea seems a bit overrated though, the skree sound gets annoying. They so badly wanted to be the Dead C for a while there.
