CAVITY supercollider. sludge doom molar murder i’m a very HUGE fan of these guys, though this is not one of their best releases. Or maybe i’m biased because rene was not singing in the band anymore. Maybe also because a guy who was known for playing in 3rd wave punk/ska bands somehow slipped into the lineup. Ok, i’m biased. The best track is threshold, some undeniable heavy riffage there. These guys were amazing live, at their peak, with rene as frontman. Saw them many times as a lad not realizing how special they were. Even during the supercolider era they were at least extremely LOUD. i highly recommend the micellaneous recollections 92-97 cd, which is the one i listen to the most these days.

I've only seen 2 from rabids list: RHCP and Smashing Pumpkins at the Reading Festival (who were really good, sorry hipsters)

I don’t know on the lam. I feel like maybe i woulda seen them play around this time period, but honestly don’t remember it being anything fast. But the best albums are: human abjection and somewhere between the train station and the dumping grounds. The miscellaneous recollections 92-97 cd i mentioned before is also amazing.

SPRAY PAINT feel the clamps LP. This aint no prog rock. 1 song, 1 musical riff, 3 minutes. And thats fine by me. This aint no Emerson Lake and Palmer conceptual rock opera. Mouth full of marbles seppo accents a bit distracting though. Can see how the A FRVMES guy would be involved here. Damn this sounds totally relaxing and satisfying. I now need everything by this band DISROTTED/LEDGE LP. just found out about Disrotted. glacially slow doom/sludge. absolutely my thing. BOB DYLAN shot of love LP. 200 yen in Book Off, LOL. 1981, his religious phase, fine, sounds better than I was expecting.

SPRAY PAINT feel the clamps LP. picked this one up new in a sale bin in auckland as well as a 'blind shake' lp a 'reigning sound' live cd and couple of late period fall cd's all for $5 nz each when i was there earlier this year. i'd seen them in sydney with cuntz and feedtime five or more years back playing to less than thirty people and it was a great night all around. anywayz, i'd passed on spray paint recs before for one reason or another. well, mainly because i'm a tight arse, but i wouldn't pass on one again...unless it was y'know, expensive

richard thompson - 'starring as henry the human fly' lp - post fairport, pre richard and linda duo. killer weird prog acid folk rock that sold fuck all copies upon release in '72 got my og copy secondhand for $9 early '90s. i am a master bargain hunter.
rocket from the tombs - the day the earth met rftt' cd - heavy rock, hard groove, proto punk...whatever ghetto stick this in, it will kick its way out and knee you in the balls. had ample chance to get this on vinyl when it came out but didn't want to 'double up' because i had the cd first. i am a dead set fucking loser.
harry pussy - superstar 7" - one of my fave bands in the early '90s saw something about this new unreleased stuff from '93 on twatter and jumped on it. glad i did too, reminds me of the time i put one of their lps on a friends swanky stereo really fucken loud and him jumping out of his chair to turn it down while pointing to his speakers and yelling "the frequencies!! the frequencies!!!" ha ha. truly a golden memory.

ya fucking kiwi dickheads have me listening to Gone Aiwa - Above Ground I mean, I still need to read that Bill Direen interview but I dig his groove! And sliding it between some VU - Quine Tapes stuff and sure the VU is an easy go-to for references to Mr. Bilder's lo-fi-ish jammy stuff, he is definitely on his own planet...as are the rest of you sheepfuggers...No venomous reptiles or insects? wusss + a lot of e's the lot of you...
PS: FUCKface: Have you dug on Orcutt's solo biznesses?

sukebe i have that dynamite hemorrhage issue with the direen interview and happy to scan it for yer if y'want(?) ...also, saw him live in a small auckland venue last year. he was really great when actually he played, but spent far too much time talking and reading poemtry for my liking.

ah yeah, Orcutt has been prolific...some of the main ones are on Bandcamp but I understand the material/logistics issues. Spraguey the Sperg is well documenting the PLANdemic to destroy international vinyl transactions... Cheers, but I actually have a hard copy of that DH ~ And, he has made them all (and Superdope) available as pdfs... dynamitehemorrhage.com/category/fanzine/still jamming the Quine sessions...

ok, probably knew that but being a luddite it never sunk in. velvets s\t third was on my record player (notice i don't say turntable, cause this thing really is just a record player) for a few hrs yesterday while i was painting some stuff and couldn't be bothered looking for anything else...quenched a thirst i didn't know i had. only have one vu bootleg 'the gymnasium' or something...i'll have to give it another spin sometime. someone gave me a free ticket and to see lou and band with quine at 'the sydney entertainment centre' i dunno, early - mid '80s. i thought they were pretty shit. in hindsight, it was probably me that was pretty shit.

I like Quine as a guitarist, and he’s got some interesting opinions on music, but I can’t really get into Blue Mask era Lou Reed either. I think you hadda be there, and maybe you hadda be a certain age too. Lou himself I don’t think ever played guitar as good as he did in the VU days.

i doubt quine had latitude to play however he wanted in lou's band

According him i guess he had more latitude in the beginning with blue mask, but by legendary hearts lou had taken over. The fact that lou reed was playing guitar again made him insecure over giving quine too much of a spotlight.
Not really a fan of either album myself.

“Street Hassle” is one of my faves, and i’m not too big into solo reed.
Can you believe i’ve still never heard the bells?

went thru a solo lou phase a long, long time ago with only the occasional passing listen since. the bells is a mixed up fuct up bag of crap and excellence. thinking about it now i can only remember two songs,'disco mystic' and 'i wanna boogie with chew'...worth a listen but i wouldn't go out of my way.

LAURIE ANDERSON Home Of The Brave LP. $3 copy was a score. Coincidentally, Lou's wifey. The sound is ace but the tracks have a bit of a "supergroup" vibe and the lack of focus that tends to bring. THE FALL bend sinister. alltime overlooked entry in the great canon iHomo DINOSAUR JR where you been. sometimes it's just noise that annoys but other times it clicks like a perfect slacker's blankey.

HAWKWIND hall of the mountain grill. deeply relaxing for 20 mins then I tend to flag it for some reason GODHEADSILO share the fantasy. still the alltime underrated sludge doom entry. Never even pressed on LP ffs THE FALL peel sessions 90-98. still had it in spurts EARTH extra capsular. total drudge sludge. after 30 mins of crawling bludgeon I usually cry off

GO-BETWEENS send me a lullaby. attention fades after a while but a lot to unpack here. Their complex song arrangements make me think of them as Straya's Verlaines? FAUST tapes. too hectic for me these days THE FALL infotainment scam. 90's hits and misses THE FALL frenz experiment. my gateway album so clouds my judgment. Oswald Defence Lawyer currently usurped by Carry Bag Man...

GO BETWEENS before hollywood. omfg "Cattle and Cane" the world stops here FISHBONE bonin in the boneyard ep FISHBONE chim chims badass revenge. alltime underrated outing iHomo GODHEADSILO scientific supercake. raucous sludge that gets a bit shapeless at times THE FALL code selfish. didnt click THE FALL peel sessions 85-88. I think of this era's Peel sessions having the better versions than the albums. None more so than The Man Whose Head Expanded. One jackhammer riff for 5 minutes and it never gets old
