I’ve never heard solo John Cale after all these many years. Can you believe it? We all have those wacky blind spots of stuff we've inexplicably never hgeard turns out I've got 6 of his lp's. plus there7s about 5 more I'd buy in a flash if I ever saw them in the wild Vintage Violence 1970. flat sound but a great grower Fear 1974 the BEST Sabotage Live 1979 killer sound. abrasive gittar sound Honi Soit 1981 didnt make an impact with me Music For A New Society 1982 some rave reviews but ffs it was forgettable and miserable for me . should reinvestigate Artificial Intelligence 1985 cant remember a goddamn thing about this one

Vintage Violence
I guess the worst thing I can say about this is that certain moments remind me of solo Ringo records, but this is actually quite nice.
Surprised at how unexperimental this sounds, especially considering Cale-produced records from around this time. But at the same time, the approach here ain’t too different from VU’s Loaded, though the songs aren’t as classic. It’s good in the same way as Kinks records from around the same time.

SIX FINGER SATELLITE law of ruins. slowed the frenetic flow here. way more like late period Chrome. Not boring though. But almost. HAWKWIND leviathon LP. loses flow here and there but still a big yes CHARLES WRIGHT AND THE 103RD ST BAND must be your thing 7". 2nd single I've taken a punt on by this stupidly named band and they aint done me wrong this is fuciken awesome TEMPTATIONS wings of love LP. was skeptical about this but $2 took a punt. A side is all funk and all rooting. B side is the usual sickly "please root me" ballads. SWELL MAPS train out of it dubbed tape. a comp, damnit how did I miss the boat on this band? Totally in my wheelhouse, the moody Peter Jefferies stylings, the scratchy punk, the Chrome-style atmospherics, fuck! And also fuck "Hostess Japan" for having the vinyl rights to the Marineville and Occupied Jane lp's and being completely impossible to work with. Repressed by Secretly canadian in 2012 but noooooooo I can't buy it from them because I'm in Japan and "Hostess Japan" have the rights. Wonder how many they've sold. probably about fucken 3 copies of each. CUNTS. Anyway, this dubbed tape has taken up RESIDENCE next to the stereo. Staple go-to. It just goes around and around.

Nikki Sudden's post-SM stuff Only track of his I7d heard was back in the 80's on that Neil Young tribute lp. Moranically I had no idea about "Swell Maps" and thought Nikki Sudden was just another coiffured goth a al Nick Cave.

That Bridge tribute is my favorite NY album! Sudden owns that cover!!
Even Porridge dude nails it!
Finally fineggled my way onto Soriano's fb and was rewarded with this great jazz dude I have seemingly been ignorant of:

Jezz gives me brain aids.
Soriano's fb feed, ffs the poor bastard mustve been going spare over the last 4 years, his brain must be kitty litter by now. He was irate enough 10 years ago about the politics even when nothing was fucken happening back then.

A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS s/t lp yes, yes, you can have your laughs and I really surprised myself by quite rooting this PINK FLOYD meddle LP. bought an $8 copy that was "cloudy", sounds fuzzy on the headphones but ace out loud. That long 1-track on the B-side is deeply fucken relaxing ELECTRIC WIZARD witchcult today dubbed tape. impending dread cinematic tone a big plus here MEKONS snow 7". totally hit and miss with this band. good hit here. UNSANE visqueen dubbed tape. dubbed to cobalt tape and hate to brag, but I got the volumes just right here. Total murder at Volume 6 million. This was my peak for Unsane. Moranically I sold the LP. FFS, my favourite Unsane record and I sold it. WFT was I thinking. Sure, I got about $60 for it. But damnit only 1,000 copies pressed and now its going for $120+. Just repress the thing damnit

Discogs trader alerted me to this one, totally in my wheelhouse, althought the vocals might be an acquired taste.
Total CORRUPTED worship.

The cookie monster on quaaludes is a great match actually...and I hate regular cookie monster vocals... Bone Awl is pretty much the only death thrash or however they are classified that I really like, and best when even those vocals are a bit buried. I really like what they morphed into:

...and I hate regular cookie monster vocals... Yeah me too, pretty much the reason I sold off almost all my Corrupted records.
NEIL YOUNG hitchhiker LP. that archive release from a couple of years ago. all acoustic versions of famous shit and some forgettable new ones (new from 1976) EARTH 2 tape. muffled to shit but deeply relaxing for 30 mins or so EARTH angels and darkness tape. way clearer and sharper but still slow and monotonous and ace and a wee bit too boring for me after 30 minutes

LAMPS people with faces LP. First listen, not rooting it. Better grow on me. The knuckle-drag caveman stomp is gone. No more fantastic farty bass tone that just sounded better and better the louder you played it.
They now sound like an uneventful version of ITR labelmates VOLT.
FUCK.
This better grow on me. This was my favourite band. I don't like "change" and "progress". It upsets me. WHY do these bands not specifically tailor their music to fit my personal needs? WHY? ANSWER ME.

n.cave isn't fit to lick nikki's suede pixie boots. not then, not now, not ever HATE to brag but one day about 8 years ago I turned around and realised "holy shit, I have ALL 15 if Nuck's studio albums on vinyl" FFS I wasnt even planning on collecting the lot. I have since sold every last one of them. In fact, I started selling the day I bought the "Push The Sky Away" LP, the one where he put his new supermodel wife on the cover buck-naked. Really dude? The same LP where he sounds like a fucken Neil Diamond impersonator dicking around on the casiotone. The spell was broken and on eBay the whole lot went.
Hey fuckface (damnit I am really sorry about that) it7s my impression Nuck seems far better received in the UK than in Aus? HowFT did this happen and when did it start?

NEIL YOUNG homegrown LP. the unreleased one, 1976, so this was going to be the follow up to 1974's On The Beach? No wonder he shelved it and went with Tonights the Night instead. Wondering IF it did come out where it would fit in the canon? The B side is very good but basically it's Stars and Bars-good minus having a "Like a Hurricane" on it. WEEZER blue CD. Buying this, ON CD, for $1, should see me docked the VERY LAST of my Punk Points. And I am DEFINITELY telling Tim. Had never heard this band before, even in passing, so thought I'd see what all the fuss is about. Or, was about. 25 years ago. It has quite a meaty gittar sound and I can see why they were so popular. Like an Offspring for the dorks? Soon gets a bit repetitive though. WEEZER pinkerton CD. this was the 2nd one, 2 years later, and the lads seem a bit soured on the trappings of fame. Plus, minus the meaty innocence of the first one, the music is just kind of forgettable.
FAHHHK Gordons LP getting a reissue. Worth it just for the Future Shock 7". midheaven.com/item/st-future-shock-by-gordons-theSnoozed and losed on the Dadamah comp ffs midheaven.com/item/this-is-not-a-dream-by-dadamah

both those gordons records are great. 2nd lp not so much. apparently bailter space are still playing too, or were pre the event. which is a surprise to me cause i saw them break up on stage at the corner hotel in the late '90s. time wounds all heals i s'pose

You were probably subjecting the poor fellas to a torrent of vicious and racist heckling and the brave young kiwi lads just finally snapped and threw in the towel right then and there. Yeah have had the Gordons cd for ages. Dubbed to noice metal tape. So do I really need the lp version? The tape version is fine. #first_world_problemsTook a punt on the Strobesphere LP from 2012 a while back. Doesnt stir like days of yore but still a solid shoegaze outing

Doesnt stir like days of yore but still a solid shoegaze outing nah mate, nothing to do with me. you got me all wrong mate. i'm a big fan of, ok maybe not kiwis en masse, but those three blokes from chch in particular. you ever hear that story about how when the gordons supported motorhead in chch in the early 80's they used twice as much amplification and were three times louder as the headliners or some such? anyway, thats the legend that was going around about them in aus in the 80's. think i heard it from the guy behind the counter at phantom records in sydney when i bought their first lp. pretty sure something about it would come up if i could be arsed googling it properly. i've never heard strobesphere. can't remember why but i stopped buying bailterspace recs way before that. i still have their first few lp's and even tho i don't listen to them very often, they hold up when i do. their first two 'tanker' and 'thermos' are both great, they definitely work best at at window rattling volume tho.

sure loud was their pronoun but pretty sure they were good too. theres a vid of adults and children from the early 80's on y/tube thats worth while if you ain't seen it

....the gordons that is not bailterspace, they was loud too but not like the gordons legend. first time i saw bailterspace in the late 80's in a small club in sydney in front of not too many they were fucking incredible. so good. i've seen a lot of shows and thats one of ones that really stands out.

Goddamnit now this "Buddy Holly" song has taken up residence in my head and just will not fuck off. This thing is like Brain Crack. Had to be a #1 hit. These cunts mustve got rich as shit off this formulaic jr high kiddie crack. Mid 90's. just at the tail-end of the days befroe music became free too LOL I've got;
Nelsh 6 song 12". 9/10 this thing is pure nostalgia for me. Not the tectonic plate shifters they went on to do but instant good cheer for me. Tanker CD 7.5/10. fairly morose. plus the cd sounds like shit. Grader Spader just dont hit here Thermos LP 9/10 peak iHomo Robot World LP 9/10 also peak. Call it Twin peaks cuntz. Tectonic MUNT. The Matador label guy should be punched in the fucken head for letting these LP's go so far out of print Vortura CD 8/10. never really clicked. maybe cos its cd. never seemed to go loud enough while still nestling into the munt zone Strobosphere LP 7/10

tanker stuff killed live first time i saw them, but yeah, both nelsh and thermos are a cut above it. they got tagged as 'indie' but were way heavier and i dunno, 'no wave' than that shit genre tag could ever imply.
