A punk LP is a tall order. How many punk LPs would be better as 1 killer 7?" A whole LP of thrash an even tougher ask. I can only think of "Nothing To Nothing" by TEAR IT UP which qualifies and even that one took the foot off the pedal a couple of times. How long is a thrash lp tho? Should the DRI and NEOS eps be considered albums pressed on 7" because $$. Is Negative Approach's Tied Down an ep or lp?? Of course, so many first-wave HC bands made crappy HM lps after making great eps...You know where this guitarist ended up?

Just about to get a copy! Curious that discogs have it under the genre doom metal, no mention of shoegaze.

How long is a thrash lp tho? Ha, how long was that 1st Circle Jerks LP? Aboot 14 songs in all of 14 minutes? Man what a liberating blast of a thing that was. Got the world up my ass and so on and so forth

I do recall No Doubt from California Ska Quake, one of the better songs on there honestly, and Donkey Show for sure..... they seem so much like what I'd like, but I don't. Sax went to Slackers, organ went here to Chicago in the Adjusters who we played with sometimes...
My ROTA history is long and funny. My copy of that 7" has "Thanks for teaching me to drive" on it because it was given to me by the drummer who, debatably, I helped learn to drive.
My friend bought their metal era cassette at the time cuz of the cover and indeed you could hear they just had... a very refreshing "not so serious" as the average hair metal band at the time, which I'm sure was a carry over from their hardcore days. Also accidentally saw them in Milwaukee at a huge outdoor festival once which was fun cuz... that kind of band playing a daytime show to a largely unsuspecting crowd is fun. We ran into the guitar player by the beer tentand told him our friend's mom found and destroyed the tape (true story, she was nuts, the cover isn't even offensive) and he lifted his beer and yelled "Right on!!!" or something (i think something more ridiculous which was therefore funnier but i just can't remember) which we thought of course was great. May or may not have been the guy you're referring to sukebe, i did not track lineup changes over the years.
also.. now that i think about it isn't gg already sukebe?

Circle Jerks LP - definitely another one. They didn't go HM but just generic crap...but managed to create an iconic lp and image, so they are still a top patch band.
Love that you have a connection to such a random post. I had forgotten (never realized maybe) that ROTA made a metallish record. Jay Yuenger went on to White Zombie. Looking now, I see he didn't play on "Make Them Die Slowly", their metal moves record after getting rid of their incredibly unique first guitarist, who went on to briefly do this off-kilter metal band.
(Album on Man's Ruin natch!)
My real name starts with a G so I have often used it in my online handles. "GG" is the japanese "jiji" short for uncle or older gentleman, so "sukebe jiji" is "Dirty Old Man"...The Allin connection at this point is unfortunately unavoidable - dude was kinda an asshole at the end of the day...

Saw this at the "Art House" movie theater in San Diego in like 10th grade (1980ish). San Diego had a big mod revival scene, so we got there a little late and it was sold out. Went to the back of the theater and some Mods were trying to break open the exit door, which they did. I remember watching it from behind the screen for a bit and then being able to sneak to the front and sat on the floor watching the rest of it. (We are) The Mods went nutso during the White Cliffs of Dover scene. So memorable. After the movie, a Mod gave me a ride on his scooter to the nearby punk show. Pretty sure it was China White and a similar OC punk band of the day.

I am so very scared to look up any of those performers listed on the new one that I don't know, i.e. nearly all. the Killers- some two-piece White Stripes rip-off I think. Billie Eilish - A female pop singer I think. A kiwi?? Imagine Dragons - who hasn't heard that crap name. Fuck them
However, note that you could still make a festival with a ton of those bands from the '92 one! Shonen Knife was just touring ffs. AI hologram Kurdt and Nirvana!!
This band's singer also passed away too young...really liked their early albums...
That '92 comedy tent tho: Tommy Cockles and Rubber Bishops wft?

Looks very handy for bands etc flogging their wares.
Only 5% fee if items sell.
In fact, for someone overly familiar and inured to the barren hateful arsefucking fields of Discogs, it almost looks too good to be true...
Fuck the greedy corporate shitholes FeeBay and Discogs. Inhumane wastelands run by disdainful soulless Big Business 1%ers.

I am a bit confounded by this band. I can say they're extremely good at what they do, but it's a bit like Primus or Frank Zappa where I can admire but not particularly like their music. Their productivity is INSANE.

Their productivity is INSANE. I am very wary of these motherfuckers. Lots of band members and they seem to churn out "product" as if they're treating it like a $$business. Which is fine. I suppose. But really, fuck that shit. They're at risk of becoming known as the fast food of "weird" music. Or are they even weird? Never heard them, like most, I wouldnt even know where to start. Guess I could google what their consensus "best" record is....

I had a listen to the best-reviewed one (Nonagon Infinity) and it's very creative but it sounds genuinely terrible, like it's being payed through a clock radio or something.

Had a look and my skepticism meter has gone from a 6 to a 9. They're the normal, well-adjusted kids from school who have decided to cosplay being weird to make $$$. Even got the Rock Hair ffs. I know weird. I've seen weird. Kevin Rutmanis from the COWS came in my rekird shop back in the 90's. The weirdness permeated the store. "This guy was born an outsider" I can remember thinking.

Guess I could google what their consensus "best" record is.... They seem a blatant OhSees ripoff to me, minus the sexy drug addict arsehole. Your instincts are indeed correct re: The Cows. Trumpets! No flutes!! (actually I like the ohsees stuff with a flute!!) That is fucking radio rental. I blew up some big old boxy Pioneer speakers back in the 90's with a cd by Mainliner the Japanese band. Just so massively distorted the woofers cried no mas. CUNTZ! yazzz - a point of agreement in these recent rough seas around here...haha...Furgen luves me some High Rise, Mainliner and most other PSF joints. Never got to see them or any offshoots really. Same with AMT - they just don't seem to come to Hiroshima. The closest I got started with me getting dropped off in some suburb of Osaka by friends who were returning from playing Tokyo, driving all the way back to Fukuoka IIRC. I took a train to Namba, found a locker to stash my stuff, and off to the infamous Namba Bears. A tiny place, let's just say. It was a night of cover bands and the Black Sabbath cover band was finishing their set when I squeezed in (many were just sitting on the floor) - the guitarist had a Les Paul, thus the boredom maybe...The next and last band was a Deep Purple cover band with Kawabata Makoto of AMT - the reason I was there. They come on as a three piece and just launch into some heavy freakout improv - the only similarity to DP was his lovely white strat which he destroyed at the end of their 30?40? minute set. Fun times. ETA: Never saw this before!! searched Ritchie Blackmore Deep Purple White Strat

Speaking of Sonny Sharrock, his bandmate Peter Brötzmann has recently passed, making Laswell the only remaining member of the mighty Last Exit. Free skronk n roll
Here he is with his a son, a fairly noisy ass guitarist...
Bit of guitar wankery to start but this is decent footage of this heavy unit (Swans, Zeni Geva, Unsane, etc...)

Gave it a run thru the discogs listenin post. Great. Just great. Another entire discography I need. The "prog rock" label is a bit scary* but as tsukebbo sez it sounds akin to Zeni Geva. CC'ing Ladyfingers into this convo, this band might extend as far as the tip of his SWANS stiffy.... * prog rock drives me around the bend. Changing rhythms entirely every 4 seconds. FFS. Might sound mad but I now think of FUGAZI as prog rock. Loved them in the 80's and 90's, burned out on it, sold the lot, tried to get back in touch this year and they now sound annoying as hell to me. New "bits" every 15 seconds or so, drives me nuts, damnit why didnt I ever notice this before?

You probably know Gore who were also somewhat Swansish but all instrumental... (ETA: I see Southern Lord rereleased their first two in 2008)
I think this record dude only does single songs now due to being hit with copyright bs I'm sure. Too bad because he really gets great sound fwii...Had this on vinyl back in the day - always great for front of the stack.
Ran across this funny bit o history I had never heard about Thurston Moore. The first two are kinda mellow but that Memphis Underground one is even more jarring in the context of the song...
(First solo is by another gtrist, Sonny turns on the flamethrower at 5:35)

the second gore lp is really great. never thought of them a being like swans, more sabbathish i'd say. but i can see how they could be compared...except gore had actual tunes with changes and stuff and knew to keep them short and sharp.
i got the swans first 'filth' when it came out. never really cared for it tho, or the next few and never bothered beyond that. i did see m.gira solo in brisbane about 15yrs back and it was a good show. he's a bit too earnest for me tho.

My compares-with bands are completely off the cuff and not sit down and give serious attention to whatever noise some daddy-ohs be blasting to produce a publishable review. I hadn't listened to the younger Brotzmann in a while and I think that live video highlights his unique guitar style or whatever and that is of course the focus of the band really while the Swans are a lot more ponderous and the focus is on Gira's angst(?). I honestly have never gotten that much into their early stuff even though Forced Exposure forced Gira's "crazed ideations" or whatever on the readers. Really dig this current later period Swans, and was even rocking the new one the other day.
tldr: I don't know what the fuck I am talking about but I do.
