I "missed" Water Damage at Goner meaning I failed to watch their set within the week-long window the video was available. Also weed is illegal in Japan...Here's their set from Gonerfest anyhow

Was jamming a bunch of Peter Hammill the other day after hearing "Nadir's Big Chance" in some proto-punk grouping. Ex-Van der Graaf Generator but this album especially reminds me of a more restrained Roxy Music - primo era of course.

Nadir's Big Chance contains anticipations of punk rock. In a 1977 radio interview, John Lydon of the Sex Pistols played two tracks from the album and expressed his admiration for Hammill in glowing terms: "Peter Hammill's great. A true original. I've just liked him for years. If you listen to him, his solo albums, I'm damn sure Bowie copied a lot out of that geezer. The credit he deserves, just has not been given to him. I love all his stuff"

(I guess i always thought VDGG were German! Will have to have a listen to some their stuff as the evening wears on...)

Haino even formed a sporadic trio with former Les Rallizes Dénudés members Doronco on bass and Sami on drums. They played as early as 2006 and as late as 2010. The recordings I’ve managed to find indeed recall Mizutani in his prime, shrieking delirious and distant codes through effects over a simple beat and canvas-like guitars. It’s beautiful, damaged stuff.
