I am fascinated by this also. Once one sells for $1500 it is almost impossible for us to recalibrate our ape brains to accepting $30. "But... but. $1500!!" So if you have 50 copies do you just play the lonnnng game and sell 1 copy a year and pray the "zeitgeist" doesnt fuck off to Shelbyville? You can find some stubborn people out there who will just keep listing it around "last sold" price, but it seems like people have sussed it out and don't buy, and then I guess it's a game of who's the most stubborn?
Also sellers like that usually aren't listing "1 of 50!" they just quietly put up another so there's always that record nerd fear.... oh no.... what if this one really is the last one?!?!?

Should be "Viva Sake!" but good luck with it and maybe start thinking about lowering the beer tax, making it easier for microbrewery start-ups, and also legalize weed if you want to get more taxes from young people. I definitely noticed a bigger presence of work-out culture in Japan when I was there, which is probably one of the lifestyle changes responsible for less drinking.

Were I to live in Japan again, I would be sure to bring a jar with me everywhere so that when people ask me when I am going home I could just show them the jar and wait for their contributions to my "get the fuck out, thank you" fund. Dickheads.

Ridonklous that I don't have eijuken at this point but I can be a maron about things some times. Nonetheless, I am tempted to go through the major hassle of renouncing US Citizenship and getting Japanese just to carry the passport around and wave it around. "don't worry ojichan, ore mo nihonjin dazoo! itsuka noumoyo! kanpai! banzai!" I am not going to kaeru ever!
But man, Japan seems headed for some tough times, and they are going to re-open to the hordes of foreigners clutching strong dollars -and euros I imagine, although euros that can travel will head somewhere warm for the winter. From next month, I guess? Whatever, first the whole Moonie scandal and now a fuggin Olympics bribery scandal. Cursed Covid Olympics baybee...oh and the Abe state funeral debacle.

So, I am off to Ishigaki and Iriomote Islands in Okinawa next week, closer to Taiwan but at least there is no military of any type. Second time to both, three times in Ishigaki - the wifey has friends there. Scheduled to go scuba diving in Iriomote for two days but it will be colllldddd. And then there is the typhoon factor. Went all the way to Miyakojima a few years ago and a minor typhoon kept us from diving. Was happy to discover they still eat goat there - goat udon soup was yum but skip the goat sashimi! Anyone here been to Okinawa? These non-military islands are worth checking out if you can get there cheap in off-season. Japanese touristy annoying at places but still with nice beachy mellowness. The other butt-end of Japan and so so different from Hokkaido...

I have been there. People were very kind to me. It had a much better vibe than any other place in Japan. Sadly, I was only there for a week. I should have stayed for a lifetime.

Never been to Okinawa. I'm sure it's nice. I'm scared of any place that could at any time be even hotter and more humid than Tokyo. My travels were limited to band jaunts, which frankly is how I'd like to see a place.
Blasphemy: seen one shrine, seen em all.
Why do I want to go somewhere and go to the parts that only tourists go? Of course I want to go see the local punk show -- I'm 47 and believe this counts as valid Culture.
Everyone in Tokyo will tell you the food is better in [anywhere else.] I think it's part psychological. We did eat sushi in Kyushu and I was like oh my god, amazing! But you're traveling, you're not at work, you're with friends, in a blind taste test could I differentiate this supposed difference in quality? We were not at a fancy place. My guess is I could not.
Still fun and memorable.

I would expect young viets to be doing that work soon. Surely asians* cannot be trusted with such responsible positions. Besides, now that the younger j-generation have wised up that babies are shit and the birth rate has died on its arse, there are about to be millions of old j-geezers shuffling around Japan looking for work. This place is going full motherfucking Walking Dead *Japanese are not asian. They are a separate and distinct and unique race of people.

Japanese Food
People wank on and on and on about how awesome Japanese food is.
I'm not fucken having it.
Most of it is deeply unhealthy and often just flat-out fucken revolting.
TL/DR I am so fucking bad at being in Japan.
Let's Review;
Tofu.
Disgusting. A tasteless white slab of wobbly snot. Not fucken eating this.
Miso soup.
AKA Snot Soup. Fuck off with this shit. It's not food, it's just a puddle of wet brown bullshit.
Umeboshi
An impossibly sour shrivelled plum gonad. Some sort of punishment from the samurai days, fucked if I know. Not food.
Sushi.
Sushi is fine and a big fuck yeah. Fuck off with the Snot Soup and get the sushi on.
Tempura.
A fucking joke of a food. A tiny piece of pumpkin or some shit that is deep fried in a massive casing of crusty batter. It's just 90% solidified cooking oil. This shit will kill you. Healthy food my black arse.
Soba
Revolting tasteless spaghetti. No taste.
Udon
Revolting tasteless spaghetti. No taste.
Oden
Boiled eggs and radish floating about in a puddle of tasteless hot water. Fucking terrible. Not eating this shit.
Nabe
Nabe = Pot. Yep, just any rando shit thrown in a pot with hot water. Fuck this floaty bullshit.
Natto
Rotten beans. Obviously not food. It's gone rotten you stupid cunts. Throw it out.
Tonkatsu
Deep-fried pork on rice. Japanese food is so healthy. This shit will kill you.
Mochi
Sugared rice that's been kneaded into the consistency of a melted eraser. Inedible. This is the shit that old cunts choke on and die from every New Years. LOL.
Okonomiyaki
Pizza sized pancake of half-raw flour covered in dead squid and mayonnaise. Hmmmm, delicious. Get fucked.
Yakitori
Skewered and grilled chicken bits. Can work if the fucking thing is not 86% gristle. TL/DR, it's always 86% gristle. I reckon I could make this way better than some of the insulting shit on a stick they dish up at restaurants.
Takoyaki
Half-raw flour dough balls with a tiny piece of fucking octopus inside. Hmm, what a treat. You may was well eat raw flour and a microwaved eraser. Fuck this shit.
Ramen
The wank about ramen is off the charts. After eating this with its oil and bullshit your guts will feel crook as fuck. There's a reason most Japanese people are somehow fat and skinny at the same time and I reckon it's this rubbish.
Karaage
Fried chicken. No hot water, no floaty shit, no half-raw flour. Congratulations Japan on not fucking up fried chicken. FFS.
Sukiyaki
Here we fucken go again, another pot of hot water with floating fucking vegetables. You can't taste a thing except for fucken hot water. Plus it has that see-through spaghetti bullshit that everyone avoids as they make a beeline for the salvageable bits of meat that, too late, have already been stripped of all meat taste by the stupid fucking hot water. Fuck this nonsense. Japanese menu covers really should look a bit more like the image below, all things being equal.

Japanese culture software is pretty deeply ingrained for sure, but I cannot speak to if, how, when, why culture could possibly affect actual structural changes in the DNA...However, come Dec. 22, camp leader here got very passionate about reserving a full roast chicken for Xmas eve, and even after I explained that there is no need to worry, the Western expats all do ham or turkey or roast beef on Xmas, and my friends said they'll make the main dish, she said "we'll get KFC on the 26th then..." We brought charcuterie and wine, and our Catholic friends, a Western/Viet couple, charcuterie and wine prepared a nice Vietnamese chicken dish and rice porridge, okayu. Found out that only some Catholics eat only fish on Xmas Eve...

Has potential once you get rid of the ancient kissaten smell and furnishings...You can easily imagine very elderly Japanese padding very slowly back and forth, from room to room because they forget what they wanted to do once they get there...I imagine the Chinese are buying a lot of these places up... ETA: I will look it up, but I think tatami makers/repairers are a very dying breed... I can remember how busy the tatami mat maker was just across the bridge from Yokohama JR Station. Used to work at some technical school near there. The highlight of my day was to watch the mats being made. I reckoned the place made money considering how stupidly close it was to the station. There was some English pub not far from there. Had shepherd's pie there one night. There was a huge CD shop there by there that I blew a shed load of money at. Thankfully, I can't remember the name. Wish I could remember the name of the tatami mat maker, though. That place had two vans coming and going all the time. Now, they are all probably working at convenience stores being badgered by their families for getting old.

The idea of visiting Vladivostok has always intrigued me. I knew a JET CIR from Vladi when I lived in Shimane. Served special forces in Afghanistan so maybe PTSD explains his immediately jumping into an affair with another married JET ~ American so good on ya kokusai koryu...There was another JET, big ol strapping farm boy from Nebraska or something. Married but almost immediately starts an affair with a supermarket cashier on Oki-no-Shima. Kinda like Danang, famous for bridges and that's about it... www.rbth.com/travel/2015/03/09/eight_secrets_of_vladivostok_for_travelers_to_the_worlds_edgeHere is the bridge to Russky Island, south of the city. Watch carefully from the beginning: It is a great place to visit. It would be good to know somebody there, though. Two people were killed near the hotel I stayed at so I stayed with a friend of my father's after that wee flare up of murders of tourists by the hotel. Beautiful place. Surprised me at the time, even after researching it before going there.

Basically, I am accused of assassinating a Mexican politician but was zonked out on Toluache (Jimson weed) at the time so don't even know the truth myself. At some point, I end up in Vladivostok, chilling in a punker etc. squat, warming hands by the fire in a trash can as the ghetto blaster blasts and the inhabitants eye me very warily...

Japan launches nationwide competition to boost alcohol consumption So much for that...I hope they can just easily convert these booze-free bars into Hash Cafes when Kishida, desperate at 4% popularity, legalizes all forms of hemp. "To revitalize the agricultural sectors and so we can tax the fuck out of some primo skunk!" Or put together a set of straight edge punk to dj these joints!
